The market is taking an absolute bath today. Down 380 points right now.

Oil up to $139.

Unemployment up to 5.5% from 5.0%.

Ouch.

Less than a year ago I would check my portfolio almost everyday, now I refuse to look at it..... I know it's fugly.

I hear ya. I know I'm in it for the long haul with my 401k (I'm 26), but I still cringe when I've got my last couple 401k statements.

Yep, the quarterly reports are the only thing I am looking at for my 401k and mutual funds. Other than that I'm going to ride out the storm.

Not to mention his fiscally responsible energy plan. I know there is a bottom 10 ranking for football, maybe we should have 1for Presidents.

Guys in the Bottom 10

Bush = Duke
Jimmy Carter = Temple
H. Hoover = Northwestern

Top 10:

Lincoln = LSU
Roosevelt = Texas

Others
Taft = Iowa (he was our fattest president wasn't he?)

I'm a CPA with many small business clients. IMO - what we're seeing is the real deal. Collections are slowing, spending is being cut, and making the payroll is more and more difficult. I have a seven store pizza franchise whose costs for cheese and flour have increased by $18,000 per WEEK versus last year. And we're better off in Iowa than the rest of the country.

Not to sound like Chicken Little - or Mr Bravado - but now is the time to either hold tight or take bold steps. Much is going to change in the upcoming months.

What's worse, I just read an article about a spending bill that has over 11,000 earmark spending provisions costing us billions of dollars in taxes.

The sky is falling...the sky is falling...the sky is falling!!!

No, not really...just kidding...what we really have here is a tremendous buying opportunity. The stock market is on sale right now.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to invest in airplane glue stock...
