Dookie - 30th Anniversary

I saw the Longview video on MTV and ran to Musicland at Southridge Mall to grab a copy. I go in and ask the 40 year old, pony tailed, 40 year old working at the mall guy if they have the Green Day CD and this ******* says, "which one are you looking for?" There was a zero percent chance that anyone had ever heard anything besides Dookie at that point, but he got me that day. I grabbed rhe CD and headed over to Karmelcorn and washed it down with an Orange Julius.

I went on to not work at a record store in Southridge Mall, so I like to think I actually won the war.

Lol I bought CDs from that place.
 
This is well after Dookie but found this awhile back and found it pretty awesome. Like a god damn time capsule.

as an 'older' person, I prefer American Idiot but took my son and his friend(RIP) to see them in KC several years ago and they still put on a great show.
 
It is literally impossible to NOT turn the radio at full volume when "Basket Case" comes on.

Paint me the old guy - but man 90's music could be the greatest generation of musical art. Our parents will listen to it and appreciate it, we listen to it and appreciate it and when we listen to it our teenage kids will listen to it and appreciate it. Some things surpass the test of time.

I like 90s music because you had everything. You had some metal, you had some classic type of rock bands, you had this punk stuff, you had ska, you had all kinds of good rap, etc. A lot of it would all play on one top 40 station. Now it's basically all pop music that really sounds the same. There is some cream that rises to the top for sure, don't get me wrong there are great creative people doing really good work, but there isn't the depth of it I remember from that time.

I was just a little younger, and I believe Longview (probably my favorite on the album) and Weezer’s “Sweater Song” were both in the Buzz Bin around the same time. It was an amazing time for the nascent alternative music scene.

It is hard to believe the same group did the insufferable “American Idiot” album.

No mention of the hidden track on Dookie? I thought that was so cool when I was younger.
