Dog mourning over Beaver

Imagine my surprise when I opened this thread. I thought that bounty hunter guy's wife had died.

I'm sure your pitbull is an angel. All I know is that it only takes one time and a bite from a pit bull is much more lethal than that from another dog. As nice as they are and can be, they still scare me with the amount of damage they can do

How do you know so much about everything?

My brother in law has a pit bull and I have left my.kids alone with her. One of the best dogs I've ever meet

Pitbulls are like cigarettes. Bad and potentially deadly? Yeah. But they make you look cool, even if you are a midget.

That is quite possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Do you have a source or is this just another feeling of yours?

2012 U.S. Dog Bite Fatalities - Dog Bite Statistics - DogsBite.org

  • 38 U.S. fatal dog attacks occurred in 2012.2 Despite being regulated in Military Housing areas and over 600 U.S. cities,3 pit bulls contributed to 61% (23) of these deaths. Pit bulls make up less than 5% of the total U.S. dog population.4
  • Together, pit bulls (23) and rottweilers (3), the second most lethal dog breed, accounted for 68% of all fatal attacks in 2012. In the 8-year period from 2005 to 2012, this combination accounted for 73% (183) of the total recorded deaths (251).
  • The breakdown between pit bulls and rottweilers is substantial over this 8-year period. From 2005 to 2012, pit bulls killed 151 Americans, about one citizen every 19 days, versus rottweilers, which killed 32, about one citizen every 91 days.

Who said that I did. I'm once again giving my opinion and feeling towards pit bulls. I said I know they are nice but they scare me because of the damage they CAN do. What is wrong with what I said?

A lot of people have that opinion and that is fine but I hope you feel the same way about German Shepherds and Bulldogs as well since they are two examples that have stronger bites than pitbulls.

Pitbulls are definately attributed to a lot of attacks and if raised wrong can do substantial damage, but some of these attacks may be mistaken identity based on how the dog looks

Good stats, thanks. I don't buy that a pitbulls bite is anymore likely to kill me than say the bite from a sheppard or retriever. That breed may be statiscally tied to more deaths but there is nothing magical about their bite in comparrison to any other dog.

I'm also not a big fan of being around those dogs as well. 99.9% are nice, but like I said, if they do bite you, the damage is much worse than from another dog.

It's a stronger bite.

I believe what leads people to believe Pitbulls are more dangerous is what they were bread to do - fight and kill. And the media makes it even worse - the media portrays dog fighting as strictly pit bulls, when in reality it is multiple breeds.

I would never own a pitbull, as it is in their blood to fight. Can they be domesticated and become sweet dogs? Yes. In fact, I have never met a bad pitbull. But I personally believe they have much shorter leashes (pun) and snap quicker than most breeds. No, not every time, as there are always exceptions. But I would never be able to live with myself if I owned a pitbull and trained it correctly and when it turns 9 or 10 and is getting old, just snaps and bites a house visitor.
