Does Monte lack confidence in his shooting?

Was wondering if anyone else noticed the large amount of "long twos" Monte is taking this year? Fred has said on multiple occasions that he doesn't like seeing his guys take those shots (BDJ is guility of this too) but Monte seems to keep it in his arsenal.

Is that because he lacks confidence in his 3 point shot or just a matter of him taking what is given to him?

Also, don't bang on refs often because it is pointless but what those guys let Mason do to Monte on the defensive end last night was ridiculous. Jabbing a guy in the mid section to contain his momentum is a quick whistle early in the game and then it doesn't happen the rest of the way. Seems like ages ago where they placed an emphasis on hand checking.

Attention everyone: can we stop starting really dumb threads, please?

We lost at Kansas which literally everyone does. We are still a really good team. Settle down and stop questioning the players, coaches and everything that is ISU basketball.

I absolutely hate it when he gives up a wide open 3 to take a step forward only to miss the long 2. He is just not a good jump shooter. And he does this all the time. Just like BDJ driving into traffic and trying to pass 2 feet from the basket. You can count on it 2 times a game.

He is great at the floaters from a few feet out. Its probably his best offensive shot and I wish he would do that more.

Or that he is being asked to do more and there are time he is trying to make something happen when others are struggling.
This seems to be the case. He is being forced to defend his man quite a bit out on top this year and he may be gassed a little on his deep shots.

The middle was open for him once he made a move on Mason. He chose to pass it up unlike the previous game. For us to be a better team Monte needs to drive the lane more. Last night, without us driving, we were being defended quite a ways from the basket, which did us no good. Perhaps we were too gassed to take advantage of it.

I think we forget monte is just 2/3's through his second year. I love how he's added the drive to his game this year.

And how cute were those pictures they showed of him last night? So cute!

Last week BDJ was the only guard shooting better than Monte in the Big 12 and he's built more like a forward by college standards...of course that's overall field goals but Monte sees the ball go through on a higher % of his shots than any other Big 12 guard.

No. Maybe with his 3 point shot because his percentage is down, but for obvious reasons. He looks pretty confident with his floater which I don't think I've seen miss yet.

I don't like the mid range jump shots at all that BDJ and Monte take. but I guess Fred is ok with them taking that shot now?

I would like to just point out that this conversation is in regards to a player who is shooting at the 3rd best rate in conference play in the Big 12 at 50%.

Carry on.

It really isn't ripping a player. More like generating a real discussion that can be discussed by fans. It is something I observed and was wondering if others notice the same thing. Thanks for actually giving your opinion though after calling the thread dumb and pointless.
