Will CMC fire Manning and hire a special teams coach and save his career/ISU football?

The inept execution, slow as molasses d backs, zero 3rd down D , below avg WR’s , no special teams identity, patchwork Oline and a very bad qb outing and you have CMC year 5. A bullsh***** to the max. No plan, no solution- no clue! Tired of these campaigns of loyalty and the teams suck . A garbage fest today!

Also had the same 3rd and 4th and a mile disasters on defense and the terrible soft defense tongive up the score at the end of the first half.

Yup.... Maybe the last game we won in the margins was ULM? That's the game that stat-padded all our players' stats to make them look better than they actually are for the season.

I repeatedly voiced concern about our assistants when CMC showed up. They were a year removed from being 80,000/year guys at Toledo. And none had been pulled away. All of a sudden, they’re all $200,000-400,000/year guys at ISU? I think Matt is way too loyal to some of these guys who have really not accomplished a lot in their careers.

Matt is looking like a really good social media marketer with a lot of canned slogans

honeymoon is over for sure, the repeated mistakes need to be fixed
This. And it makes me wonder, are these coaches blind and don't see what the problems are? They keep praising the o-line and I don't get it. The o-line has been crap all five years with this new staff. They keep giving up points right before halftime and never switch the way they play defense. If what you're doing does not work, CHANGE IT! Pretty simple stuff you would think. And don't even get me started on special teams.

Manning is not the problem. The OL, WRs and Purdy were all really bad today. The OL was doing pretty well until Downing went down. Special teams were horrific. Again, the coaching by committee is not working. As a matter of fact it is getting worse.
Was coaching special teams by committee a means to get more money to the other assistants? Having Manning as the OC reminds me of the Cheez-it years when he made his buddies his coordinators. Funny he didn't take them to Auburn in those same positions.

Manning’s return as offensive coordinator in 2019 was an enormous success, directing the most prolific offense in school history while aiding the Cyclones to their third-straight bowl game and second-straight top-three finish in the Big 12 Conference.

The Cyclones averaged the most yards per game in the history of the program in 2019 at 444.3, breaking a record that stood since 1976 to rank 27th in the nation. Iowa State was able to do most of its damage in the air with QB Brock Purdy setting virtually all of ISU’s season passing marks, including passing yardage (3,982) and passing touchdowns (27), to help the Cyclones break another school record and rank 11th nationally in passing offense (311.3).

Manning’s offense racked up a school-record 714 yards against ULM and tallied over 400 yards of offense in 10 of 13 games. The Cyclones also set school marks in the following categories: touchdowns (53), points (418), touchdown passes (29) and first downs (298).

Behind Manning’s balanced attack and work with the running game, Iowa State also established a school record in yards per play (6.45) to rank 17th nationally. The emergence of true freshman running back Breece Hall, who was a Second-Team All-Big 12 pick and a Freshman All-American by The Athletic, played a huge role in ISU’s offensive success.

We can’t have it both ways. We bitched about rhoads assistants because they didn’t have any chemistry. We all wanted someone that would bring his assistants.

Didn't we lose one of our more highly praised assistant coaches last season? Can't recall his name, but the guy who was WR coach and maybe TE coach at one point. Perhaps that has something to do with WR struggles?

It's much more coaching than talent IMO. Snyder wreaked havoc for decades by teaching methodical fundamentals.

Just to think ...We at ISU could have had Bill Snyder but Our Wonderful, (NOT) AD, Max Urick hired Jim Walden instead, Without a doubt one of the biggest blunders ever made by an AD at Iowa State...Hall of Fame coaches like Snyder only come along once in a Lifetime IMHO

He was always the TE coach. Golash.

Failing to adjust to the man coverage was a big problem. Those little 5-10 yard routes where the WR just stops and tries to post up a defender don’t work that well against man coverage.

The worst play call of the day was the 4th down in their territory on opening drive of second half.

I remember and correct me if I am wrong but...I thought that CheezDip DeMoted both his Offensive and Defensive Coordinators just before he left for Auburn and left those two lumps UNEMPLOYED.

Do we get Mick McCall more involved in the O preparation and gameplan? Next two weeks may provide a unique opportunity to do so. Things I would like to see in two weeks:

** more outside run plays, this is Breece's strength. Most of his big gains last year came off runs and passes out of the flat and up the sideline (he can outrun db's). Same with Kene, where's a reverse/misdirection play with him?
** More of Scates and Daniel Jackson, or fresh bodies at WR. They are good route runners and have wheels. Time to experiment here. I do like Hutchinson and can tell he is talented.
** More qb run plays, need to scramble and make them pay if they run man to man on us. If we are scared to get brock hurt then we don't deserve to win, period.
** If it's an obvious pass play i would say throw the 2 TE set out the window, let the speedier wr's see the field more in these situations. Especially if Kolar can't go, hopefully he can next game.
** more double moves and creativity in the pass game. Landon Akers and Milton can burn people but need the right plays called for them in order to achieve this. Milton is awesome on crossing routes.

The defense?
- nothing needs to change IMO, they were rock solid for 57 minutes. That and Will McDonald should be playing most snaps, he produces everywhere (two tackles for loss and two sacks). He's also capable of drawing a hold every time he lines up.

I hate to be the guy to do this, but I'll do it.

Who lasts longer in Ames,

Prohm or Campbell?
Do you miss Paul Rhoads and 2-10 every year? CMC is God and he will fix this team so hands off this legend. Nobody will come at ISU and do what this excellent coach has done. We were a laughing team 6 years ago and you people have that short of memory? Wow. This team will be fine.

Well I don't know if CMC is god. I think he might say he is not, but I catch your drift and largely agree.

Keep in mind, IIRC the last couple of years, after a bad start or game we had similar fan reaction, or should I say overreaction? The next week or two we pulled some good games, wins, etc., then everything was fine again (for a while) until the next "inexcusable" loss.

I would imagine if that track record holds, you will soon see CMC up for early season Coach of the year award per the fans, and that he can do no wrong. Coach Manning meanwhile will be praised for best OC in conference!

Best to just stay away for a week or two after a loss and let it all pass, but I find that hard to do.

I agree with everything you said but the way I was so depressed 6 years ago? CMC is my God. I love this coach and what he has done for our school. Just so you understand how much I love him, I could find him on top of my wife, and gets her pregnant, and I will still deny he did anything or responsible(I don’t know if that even makes sense). I love my coach and he will fix this team. Nobody hates losing than him and his players. They will fix it and we will be all happy.
