Do we have a chance at the NIT?

No. Some progress this year over last, but frustratingly slow. Our defense is defintely better, but I think our offense could be worse. Finally our guards are playing a little better.

Why is it sad? We lose our top 3 guards going into the year, have been in most games, are getting great effort out of some walk-ons, and it's a sad year?

I for one am very happy with what this team has done. I am very excited for next year.

Yeah sorry I was just mad after the big "L" we put up today...but looking at the rest of the teams we play we will be at the bottom of the big 12.

I don't see it this year, but I am not willing to write off next year yet. There is always hope, and I would hope we see some improvement...although losing Jiri and Rashon will REALLY hurt. Brackins will be back and better than ever though.

I think we would pretty much have to win out and win at least on in the Big 12 Tournament.

One of the more disappointing seasons I sat through. We were doomed when Taylor was dismissed and Lucca was shafted. Simply a lack of consistant perimeter shooting.

To answer the original question, no shot this season.

I think ISU will be have to improve a ton to have a chance at the NIT next season and I do not see that happening. If my scenario is correct, this would be 4 straight seasons of no post season play for ISU, including the first 3 under McDermott. This is not good.

A usual "sky is falling" themed thread from you. Please explain why next year will be worse? Humor us.

We do lose our leading scorer and rebounder. And our team leader..

Yup, but you know that has a funny way of happening every so often. Clark had a great 4 yrs here. Hubalek was solid and both of them improved under Mac.

I'm pretty positive between Johnson and Brackins we'll be seeing those two put up some nice numbers. That and you add in getting Lucca in the rotation. That's 3 very solid players. Plus a bench that has really stepped up this year.

Goods points. Besides leading the team in scoring, Jiri also leads the team in number of shots. It's just the nature of the beast. Spread those shots around to the guys playing next year and the points will fall in place.

I think we will see our first "Team McDermott" next year, and I'm predicting that they will surprise some of the nay-sayers on this forum.

I look forward to seeing some outstanding team ball.

This one made me laugh! Believe it or not I have one of these at my desk for some of those tough engineering questions.

There is no chance of NIT. We literally have to loss only 1 more game (that means 2 road wins and 1 win over either Kansas or KState) and then still win 2 in the tourney. It will be another year without post season play...

I do think we will be better next year, but I am not quite sure how much. It seems that we are hanging a LOT on players that haven't even played a college game yet. I mean, how many times can we hear that Lucca is going to be the savior of this team? I really hope he is, but then again, Brackins was suppose to be that savior this year and we're still waiting (he will get better but so far, nothing too great).

I am nervous about next year's team. I really don't think we will be worse, but I am just not sure how much better we will be. This will be the first "all McDermott" team, being that there will be 0 players that were here under WM. I, for one, will be disappointed if we don't make the NIT. I am not expecting NCAA next year, but I think some decent improvement and an NIT berth is acceptable expectations.

Actually, the Athletic Department has supposedly put in a bid for us to host the first two rounds of the Men's NIT tournament. If we get the bid, we play in the tourney. So, if the NIT thinks they could make more money by taking a questionable team and having them host, there's still a remote possibility.

There's little chance of us actually being over .500. We have 5 games left, including the first round, and chances are we lose 4 of em.

come on forget NIT were all pumped for the CBI woooo hehe

haha i loved steve deace's meltdown about this tourney on state of the nations and i totally agree though it is worthless and shouldn't even been made up.

Theoritically we could still win the NCAA basketball national championship. All it would take is to win the Big 12 basketball tournament and then to win all of our NCAA tourney games.
