DM Register...seriously

The Rag sucks, has and always will suck, and anyone defending that POS sucks (especially some of the fake ISU fans on this site).

Seriously, if you want things to change, send your complaints straight to the Register instead of posting them here.

Who cares? We have a better team, better attendace and better fan support.

Penn State is much closer to the center of all relevance for Gannett Corp, Inc., LLC, International, Inc.
The Des Moines Register is actually the Gannett Register. The Gannett Register cares about Andrew Cuomo, Broadway Musicals and other Central Park West gossip, How the Federal Government can better care for you, and whatever other passing fancies that entertain the vagabond interns that aspire to live in East Coast Megalopolis...or maybe Malibu. Iowa State vs OU???? That is flyover, red state crap to be ignored. Anyone who buys or advertises in the Des Moines Register is socially irresponsible.

Dr. Tom attending IA game = feature article material = inside page coverage worthy.

Not wearing panties, so not bunchable.

the team with the largest fan base=most media coverage=most papers sold.
It's really that simple.

Why the hate for people who point out the facts about imbalaced Rag coverage?

Agree, the story lines should have focused first on UNI and their big win.

What's a newspaper?

Sincerely, anyone under 30.

Ancient technology that serves very little purpose? Seriously people, if you hate the rag so much don't buy it. Don't subscribe and let the turd die like so many local papers across the country.

You may need to take off your tinfoil hat and give your persecution complex a rest. The DM Register is probably a crap paper, I haven't read it in years. But you're right, Gannett is headquartered in the notoriously blue state of Virginia. It publishes the fantastically liberal USA Today and Arizona Republic. I don't know why Gannett hasn't forced all papers to publish editorials swearing fealty to Marx.

I had to double check the date to make sure it wasn't one of the other three hundred "the rag sucks" threads

Just need to merge them into one big "super-mega-ultra rag sucks", which could rival the conference collapse/expansion thread

Attending ISU in the late 70's I was pretty ambivalent about Iowa. Until....1976 when ISU defeated Nebraska in Ames. The next morning I was shocked to see the Registers Big Peach (remember the Big Peach? - with the peach colored paper for the sports section?) - had as its main headline and coverage "IOWA LOOSES CLOSE ONE TO PURDUE" or something like that.

ISU's victory was down on the corner of Page 1.

From that point on I was pretty negative on the Register.

and Iowa State is 30 miles from Des Moines. Go figure. I can't understand if the Davenport or Cedar Rapids paper pull that, but a central Iowa paper. That was back when Iowa did not have a much of a stronghold on the state too. According to a DMR poll about that time the college sports fans were split pretty evenly in the state of Iowa. Then Fry came along.

Virginia is a "notorious blue state"? WTF? Excluding the last Presidential election in 2008, the last time Virginia was "blue" in a Presidential election was 1964 when Lyndon B. Johnson was reelected (if you ignore the one blue electoral vote they got in 1972 when the rest of the state went red). If Virginia is a "notriously blue state" then Iowa is bat-****-crazy blue...

Sarcasm. Should've used the emoticon. Gannett in no way caters to the "passing fancies that entertain the vagabond interns that aspire to live in East Coast Megalopolis." (Unless THAT was sarcasm, and in which case I feel like an idiot).

Two thirds of the front sports page with a picture and a by line article for a team barely over.500 and beating a team without a pulse. How much do they have to prop up this team and this coach. I know, I don't have to read the paper, but I like reading papers. Sure their game was in the afternoon, but ISU was done at seven for crying out loud. If anyone deserved more coverage, it was UNI for their win.

I don't mind that the Hawkeyes get top billing. Since there are more fans, more of their subscribers want to read that, which makes sense. I don't care about Iowa.

What I do mind is the burying of ISU (and UNI) news. The CR Gazette, which has many ISU grads in the area, buried ISU's story on page 7. They could've at least had them on the bottom of page 1, or on page 2 or 3.

This.

I thought the same thing when I saw it. And those who are making excuses for it doesn't change the fact that it is biased reporting. I will enjoy the fact we have a better team, Coach Fred, better fan attendance, will be ranked Monday, better national publicity - but that still doesn't mean their reporting is not biased toward the Hawks.

The way I look at it, each one of our games/wins are more meaningful and newsworthy as they add to our ranking and NCAA seeding.

Iowa is just playing out the schedule at this point. If they win, they "turn a corner". When they lose, they are rebuilding.

I, for one, can tell which story deserves the most attention.

Atleast the Rag cares about Iowa BB. No one else seems to.

Because ISU averaging 12,600 fans at home games this year is so much more impressive than Iowa's 11,500?

Edit to add: ISU is averaging 13,100 during conference play and Iowa 12,600, outdrawing a team that no one cares about by 500!
