ISU will miss out on top DE targets in Newberry and Maggitt. Both heavy in-state leans. At DT ISU had top prospects come off the board in Saulsberry and most likely Jordan Williams. Remaining targets at DT imo are Jared Ebert, Damond Parker, and Brodrick Lee and the most promising although a long shot is Jon Lewis. At DE remaining top targets are Stephon Sanders, Deon Lee, and Brandon Harris. I halfway expect a late offer to Rathmacher. Expect ISU to go hard after JUCO DL in 2011 before heavily recruiting defensive front 7 for the 2012 class. Coaches making good in-roads in FL, TX and the midsouth for future classes.

The coaches are recruiting high school players that are not listed by Rivals or Scout. Recent commit Tad Ecby was not on any list that I was aware of. Iowa State is actively recruiting DT Adarius Rayner, of Largo, Florida.

My advice is to be patient.

bigsag is right on

DL is such a tough place to recruit. The top notch players are snatched by top programs and schools like ISU are forced to reach a bit and develop players or go the Juco route. I trust Rhoads and crew to target the right prospects and then develop them into future players.

Yeah, there are a LOT of teams that are missing out on Newberry and Maggitt. They were long shots to start out, but worth offering just to get our name out there and maybe get an in with their respective programs.

It will be tough for ISU to pull in 4 star+ DL recruits. What we are probably looking for are 3 star studs at best and developmental guys. Unless you are at the top of your BCS conference, you usually have to grow DL, and can't recruit guys that will start as true Frosh. Our "friends" to the east are in the top third of their conference and they still take developmental guys to go with their better DL recruits.

Newburry was on campus at one time I believe so at least we are getting some interest. I would bet Maggitt gets here sometime. Who knows, if we can pull off an upset over OK or TX and RM really has great things to say we may have a shot at CM. Is it a long shot? Yeah, it is, but you never know. We offer immediate playing time on the Dline if your good enough.

Tad Ecby will be on lists by the end of the fall.

Great to hear!

I have a feeling our coaching staff is doing their homework on these non-rated guys. They seem to know exactly what they want with these "projects".

I would have been pretty ****** if when I was on the team my younger brother was a highly rated recruit and he didnt come to the school I was at and play along side me (ala the Maggitts). Probably ****** enough to hold it against him for a long time.

Ebert is originally from iowa city. dont hold your breath that we will get him!!!
good list of offers though. penn state, oregon, okie state, us.

I have a feeling we are close on a couple Dlineman. I also think we have three future Dlineman already signed in Lemke, Irving and Boyd or Miller. We need interior though. Hopefully within the next couple weeks we have some.

I think that Boyd is a LB all the way. He'll fit right in with Knott, Klein and George. Miller IMO is a DL. For some reason, I see them growing him into a DT. I think that Lemke and Irving stay at DE and become the tall, rangy DEs that we've been missing. They need to get this Ebert kid as he would fit in right beside McDonough.

Fixed your Post.

Jake is not quite there yet. He has the tools to be great, but he needs to get alot more stout.

We could have a significantly different Dline next year.
DE-Rony Nelson, Maggit
DT-Reump, JUCO(taumpeou?)
DT-JUCO(Ebert), Mcdonough
DE-JUCO(Chaz Nelson, Filimoeatu), Lattimer

Any one know our chances at Ebert?

Talk about blowing up. I checked Ebert's profile a couple of weeks ago and it said he didn't have a single major offer. Now in the span of a week he's got us, Ok St., Penn St., and Oregon. Hopefully the staff utilizes the short distance and puts the pressure on. Go get 'em!
