So I have a question regarding our receiver. Quite often we have problems with our guide being being slow reacting and the same when we change the channel. You can change the channel but the screen will switch to the channel but our tv will be blank or black. Has anyone had these problems before? If so, what did you do to correct it? Thanks in advance.

Idk how relevant this is to your case but we have been getting a black box on our screen at home from Directv. Word is that we need to change resolution since our last update. This is probably irrelevant to your case but who knows. It happens all the time on ESPN. Our guide is fine though.

Have you had this problem?

I think they all do that. It is worse when you memory is getting full. I have went around and around with them about it and well they dont think they have an issue.

I'm guessing this is the case. It happens to me every so often, but my DVR is normally 80-85% full.

I havent noticed that. It just seems everything is really slow at times. Our main receiver is a hd dvr which is the one causing problems and our bedroom is a plain receiver which is fine and we never have a problem with that one.

Memory was my only conclusion that I could come up with. Just wanted to check and see if it a common occurance.

Ours is an HD receiver as well.

Check out DBSTalk.com and you will find you are not alone with this issue. Last i checked DirecTV had not acknowledged it as a problem.

Go into your video setup and turn NATIVE to OFF. This feature adjusts the output resolution every time you change the channel to match the programming. Turn it off and just set the resolution to the max your TV can accept, you will notice changing channels much more quickly.

Is that on the TV or the receiver?

This little issue aside, do you guys like DirecTV? I'm thinking about switching from Dish to Direct.

I love it, but I also buy the MLB package and stuff. Ive never had a problem with them. Better than Comcast, that's for sure.

Ours does this as well, but its very hit and miss. More often than not it keeps up.

I think this is the issue as well. I have the delay on my HD DVR receiver but my non-DVR receiver in my bedroom is instant response. My $.02

So for you guys that were having the same problem as I, I just called DirecTv and they said the problem is nationwide. They have engineers looking into the problem and there will be an update that everyone has to download when its out. They said to change the resolution by hitting the res button on the front of the receiver. You are also told to go to preferences in settings and turn your scrolling effects off. Then go to video in settings and make sure native is turned off. Prolly wont help much but cant hurt.

This is not a new thing, it has been around for years. It is much worse on the slower units like the HR21/22. I just got an HR24 in our bedroom, it is much faster.

Our DVR receivers do the same thing after they've been on for a while. My solution is to turn off the receiver, then actually pull the plug on it for about 30 seconds. Plug it back in and let it boot up. Seems to clear up the slowness for a while. I'm guessing they have some kind of a memory leak in their code that slows things down over time.

Can't guarantee this will work for you, but it helps me every time. Just make sure you're not in the middle of recording something when you pull the plug. :)
