Ok so I just got a new TV for my man cave but I don't have a receiver for my direct tv. Do I really need to pay full price to get a box to go with the TV? Should I just call them up and whine about to and try to get a free one?

Dont think whinning will help. There are ways "around" your problem but far too much work. Better off just paying for the receiver.

Where are you at in your contract? If you don't have a current contract or are getting close to its end you can call and threaten to cancel and you should get an extra box and then some if you ask.

I think it's something like $100 one time charge then an extra $5 per month. At least that's what they told me.

You should at least be able to get a discount. Just make sure to get what you need the first time. For example, are you going to get the HD DVR?

Sounds like a question for Wayne Morgan...
