Please offer me your insight on this matter. I have studied both and am more confused now than before. Looking for the best overall System and need TV and Computer service only. LOVE Cyclone sports and Big 12 with Big 10 to a lesser degree. If you have had one or both and have an opinion let me know please. I was leaning Direct tv then dish and now I am to a point of flipping a coin. Thanks for any help. Don't like loads of equipment either so whoever offers the same service without boxes all over will have the inside track!! Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Someone posted this analogy in another cable vs dish vs direct thread. It pretty much sums up my opinion

DirecTV=Lexus
Dish=Toyota
Mediacom=Yugo

Summary of the many posts already on this topic:

If you want to be able to purchase extra sports packages then Directv.
If you want a less expensive option that will still deliver all the basic sports channels then you want Dish.

Ultimately, for ISU there isn't much difference since they both carry all the channels that ISU plays on except the LHN. I personally prefer the dish equipment like the hopper, but I've heard people with the opposite opinion too.

The hopper and joey system will require a box for every TV. They used to have a system where one box ran two TV's but the remotes didn't always work well and there was some lag. The Joey's connect to the hopper so they don't require their own connection to the dish or internet, but they still need a cable jack to make that connection to the hopper.

I'm sure he appreciates your contribution...

That's fine. Im just humored at how often this thread appears. I get a lot of my information on stuff like this from CF, but I always search previous discussions out first.

I went with Dish Network for the first two years at my house. When my agreement with them was up, I asked them why I should stay with them when DirecTV was offering crazy deals for first-time users. I said I'd stay if Dish gave me the same deal and they couldn't, so I've been a proud DirecTV subscriber for the past four years.

Carl Hungus' comparison of the three big providers was accurate, although I would classify Mediacom as a Pinto because it has a tendency to blow up in your face.

Agreed lol it does seem to appear frequently.

If the OP takes nothing else away from this, or any other similar threads, just know that Mediacom is horrid.

I go with whichever can give me HD channels and a DVR the cheapest at the time.

I am waiting to see how CyclonesTV pans out on Mediacom. When they caved to BTN, I dropped back to the very basic package to avoid subsidizing the Big 10. It's the principle of the thing. I was about ready to sign up for DirecTV, but want to wait and see if CyclonesTV on Mediacom suits me better than the computer app.

Thank you all very much for the input. Didn't know there were "other" threads on this matter as I don't live and die on this forum, just knew that if I asked for help a few of you would step up. For those that did again thanks. IB
