Direct TV or Dish network?

Just curious but what about DirecTV's programming is so much better than Dish Networks? Other than NFL Sunday Ticket, what do they offer than Dish doesn't? I've been with Dish Network for 2 years and have loved it.
I had Dish for three years and really liked it as well. Price was right and their equipment was reliable as a tank. But I have young kids and Dish got into a rights dispute with Disney. Pretty soon the Disney-owned channels started going from HD to SD, not only the kids channels but also ESPN2 and ESPNU. I also missed several ISU games last year because Dish carries every Fox regional channel imaginable EXCEPT FCS, which several of our games were on last year.

The last straw and deciding factor came when we got our third HD set. Dish does not (or did not at the time) offer a truly whole-home DVR system. You could share a DVR between two sets but only ONE of them could be HD. So to have HDVR service on all my HD sets, I would have had to buy two more DVR boxes. With DTV I could have one DVR feed HD to any TV in my house. That was case closed for me.

Dish -- better equipment.
Dish -- significantly cheaper programming.
DirecTV -- more/better sports.

I would consider those 3 things to be fairly universally accepted.

There isn't anything I want to watch on Dish that isn't in HD. Unless you really care about Disney for your kids being HD.

If you're a sports nut and want to look at $150/month or somehing like that for TV, then DirecTV is probably your best bet. If you want almost all the ISU games in HD with a great receiver for $60/month (not a promotional rate) -- then Dish can definitely accomplish that.

Have had direct since 99, and have no complaints. The Dish DVR's still can only do 1 HD output on the multi-room receivers, correct?
Their latest can do HD sling output -- provided you have a TV or an adapter that works with that. Though it's slightly misleading because the sling HD is actually the TV1 output, so it's not a separate HD output. You can buy 3rd party hardware that converts HD to ethernet and use that with TV1 output on any HD receiver already -- and cheaper than the sling adpater things you can get direct from Dish.

(I'm 85% sure I'm accurate on that.)

January 11th the Des Moines/Ames area should be getting a software update pushed to some DirecTV HD DVRs. It's a new HD UI that is a lot better looking, quicker, has some new functionality.

I bought a $50 slingbox 4 years ago and hooked it to my Directv. I cna watch it on my Android phone, wife's Ipad, or any PC.

We currently have cable with internet - considering a dish bundled with phone line internet. What are you dish people using for internet connection and do you like it?

I am using an over air digital connection because I hate the 7mbs promise and maybe get one at peak. I pull 12 mbs constantly, but pay more. But with a sling box attached... It is awesome!

Been with DTV since '96, my only complaint is the horrifically slow response on their DVR's. Push the FF button and it takes 20 seconds sometimes to start FF.
