Different Team with Lanning

Sad thing is...we were saying the same about Richardson when he came in during the KU game. Then we got hyped about Rohach during the WVU game. I hope for everyone's sake this is different.

I think the difference here is the shift in gameplan. The type of game we played with Lanning, combined with Warren, is something different than the spread passing game we've been trying to force. I'm not saying it will lead to more wins, but it's confirmation that this team was truly being mismanaged by an incompetent staff too scared to hurt a kid's feelings and too stubborn to realize they were wrong.

I'll tell you this, if I make the trip this year and Rhoads has the nerve to start Richardson, I will buy a front row seat behind the sideline and boo Rhoads as he comes to the sideline from the locker room, boo him every third down they don't convert, boo and heckle him the entire 4th quarter if they are trailing big, and boo him as he leaves the field.

You'll be drowned out from all the other boos.

On the flip side the change in game plan night have caught Baylor off guard. We'll see of JL is legit against Texas when a defense had a full week to prepare.

Rhoads will be back - so brace yourself.

That mindset is so Iowa State. Stay within the point spread and it's like we won the game. You are right, watch the marketing spin to somehow make this a morale victory. I sure Baylor wanted to just get this game over after getting up 35-0. Rhoads should not be back.

I agree. Very exciting watching the 2nd half. I do feel the staff will find a way to hold him back though.

Once defenses game prep for him it will be tougher but like the kids attitude. Seems to take command.

With a program in such need of something positive, the second half today was at least something. Is Lanning going to become a good QB? It's going to take more than one half to prove anything. Have hope but don't get too excited.

I quite honestly think it's a superior team totally overlooking an ISU team once it had a huge lead. Play lanning, for sure, but I don't think it's going to make much difference. I think the staff will screw him up just like everyone else
So Baylor goes full throttle all season long even when up 50 but decides to shut it down against Iowa State on their homecoming? How does that make more sense than the dramatic change in the game the instant Lanning took the field?

Well, what the actual improvement was is different. In those other cases we just saw a quarterback that appeared to have more skills than the previous quarterback. Sure we saw that today, but unlike those other situations our entire offense was transformed with Lanning. With Sam under center we are a team completely reliant on the the QB. With Lanning we were a running team, and that is the ONE thing that hasn't failed us this year since we discovered it against Toledo.

This change is different than those other situations because it's about changing the offense, not just a QB, and we certainly need more than just a measly old QB change.

If Richardson starts next week WTF coach, play players who give you the best chance to win. The team is different when Lanning is in.

Lot of people's tune about this team is so fickle. It's kind of amusing.
Probably because every so often (1st half of Iowa, 1st Qtr vs TCU, 4th Qtr -minus the FG- against Toledo, the entire time Lanning was behind center today), we see glimpses of what this team can actually do. We should be, in all honesty, at least a 4 win team right now - but we keep finding ways to beat ourselves, OR starting games/halves with mistakes that become too big of a hole to climb out of.

He may want to, but Rhoads is the head coach. If how he was talking about Lanning in the radio post game is any indication Joel is the guy.

Honestly, I would expect a mass exodus from JTS next week if SR starts the game. As much heat as CPR is under, and for as poorly as SR has played, I would expect Lanning to start, the rest of the fans would expect him to start, and JP will expect him to start.

Nah, he'll be too busy taking pictures of our tailgaiting scene to post on twitter to show BU "how it's done."

That's an interesting thought. People would be irate not just because of how much better our offense was but because some may have had new hope stolen away. I don't know if people would leave before halftime but there would be booing every time the offense punted.

All that being said, the only way Lanning doesn't start is if he gets injured in practice this week.
