difference between plasma and lcd

Yea, I saw that SOE and thought something was wrong with my TV, but turned it off and everything looked better. Who would ever want that?

I think its just a response to people complaining about the ghosting. They did it to correct some of that but its worse than any slight ghosting in my estimation. Some people like the look of it though or don't seem to notice it.

Its funny that people still think a lot of the early problems with the different formats are still present. People still think Plasma's burn in really bad, get very hot and some even think they still need to be "recharged." Most of that is very minimal now and none need recharging.

And I think SOE was the reaction to motion blur or ghosting even though its not as much of a problem on the new panels as it was on the early ones and the black levels have been improved a lot, especially on the more expensive models.

nothing anyone hasn't already mentioned, but I recently spent a long time with a sales rep discussing this issue. this is what I was told.

Plasma typically has more vibrant colors and won't blur on quick action like an LCD is prone to do, but they usually aren't as bright and are prone to having glare issues. Plasmas are usually better for sports and action movies, but you could have a problem in rooms with a lot of natural light. Plasmas also get much warmer and could possibly experience some image burn-in if you play a bunch of video games. ( with newer tech, this isn't as big of a concern as it used to be).

Plasmas also use about 4x the electricity as an LCD.

Both options can be great TV's, but depending on your usage, on may be better for you than the other.

This is a pretty good summary. I have a 50" panny that runs warm. My brother has a 65" Panny and it doesn't at all (newer model). That 65" is the best picture I've ever seen. It blows me away. I'd never buy an LCD unless we're talking smaller TVs for a bedroom.

LCD will look better in a big showroom because they are set on a blowtorch setting for the large bright environment. If you watch it that way at home your eyes will bleed. I know people who have theirs set that way and it's obvious to me that they have no clue what a good picture is. It's mind boggling.

Nice!!!! This man has put the time in and wouldn't spend money on a something unless it performed.

I have both an LG ~50" LED and a Pioneer 50" Plasma and I'd take the Plasma hands down.

IMO, they are both great. Plasma is a bit more fragile when it comes to moving IMO. So if you are moving a lot it is a consideration. My son has a plasma and likes it. We put it back in the original box and packaging when he moves. And since he was in college when he got it and is a young professional advancing in his career, he has been moving about once a year.

well they are all fragile and plasma's are supposed to be transported in a upright position. I seem to remember hearing the same with LCD's too.

Anything can breach the seal in the Plasma and cause a gas leak making it unusable. A LCD light can go out and the LCD is still usable. Plasma TV's are much more fragile.

Very nice. What speakers are those and what are you using to power them? I may need to upgrade my speakers this year, I've had the same NHT speakers for over 10 years. I just bought an elemental design A5-350 (15") sub last year that I've been happy with.

Still the unquestioned best ever TV is the 2008 9th generation Pioneer Kuro Elite but sadly Pioneer dropped their TV division (A lot of their engineers moved to Panasonic)

Amen brother I drooled over that 60" everytime i saw it, but just couldn't afford it. I bought the 58" Panasonic PZ850U instead which still looks better than most tvs they are making now.
