NFL: Difference between Favre and MJ?!?!

Both are two of the best in their sport. There really is no arguing that. And that isn't even what I am debating about. I am not comparing their career and/or accomplishments. I am comparing how they each retired twice only to come back and play.

As for Jordan "ABOUT" getting the Wizards to the playoffs. Did you not watch Favre last year? Remember the Jets were 4-12 before he got there and he had them in first place until they lost 4 of their last 5 games.

Favre did change his mind to get out of training camp and if you don't beleive that, then take off the goggles. Favre is not a team player, just ask the New York Jets. Favre is coming back to stick it to green bay and that is the only reason.

Favre is a team player just ask the Packers players he played with for 15 years. Only one player came out and talked publicly about favre last year and that was Thomas Jones.

I don't believe for one second that Favre did this to stay out of training camp. He could have said he wasn't ready yet b/c of having surgery. He wouldn't have said he was done, than undone just to get out of that. Listen to his story on his daughter and watch his eyes water and tell me if you think he is lying. I bet you wont

Where did I say that I take them for their word? I must have missed it. I am just saying that I believe him on the retirement 3 weeks ago. Especially after he talked about his 10 year old daughter

As far as his daughters story, it's a soap opera. It's a sweet story and I'm not saying he's lying, but it was exactly the type of thing I expected to hear at the press conference. It's not just that Favre did this one time, he's done it twice. I do not think this is such a great thing for the Vikings. Favre has been a great story in years past, and I'm tired of hearing about him. He's going to be an OK QB and he's going to get more press than anyone. He is no MJ and will never ever be in that same league as an MJ. Favre was a fantastic QB that has many years of success. But he isn't the greatest. I'm pretty sure that a majority of the country could care less about Favre, but MJ, you had the whole world looking forward to his return.

Bringing up his daugter was like Bonds using his kid as a human shield at that press conference. "Oh, his daughter wants him to play, OK - we'll over look the bull ****."

Yeah bringing your kid to sit next to you at a press conference is the exact same as telling a small story about your kid wanting you to go back to play football and win a super bowl.

You can hate on Favre all you want. You can call him a drama queen and a guy who can't make up his mind all you want (and I will agree with you to a point)....but I will argue with anyone who says that Favre isn't genuine. I think that is why he is loved by so many fans

Genuine?!?!? He's ****ed-over the team and fans that hold him in legend status. He mad life nothing but hell for the Pack at the end ... they had to make the move they made.

Now he goes to a division rival for revenge? ... and skips training camp (sounds like he really wants to get to know his teammates).

He's the most self-centered, self-motivated, self-important person in professional sports this side of TO.

Do you really think in 5 years Packers fans are going to care about this? If Favre wins a SB I think they will, otherwise I seriously doubt it. 15 years and 3 MVP's doesn't go away so easy.

And yes I think he is genuine. DURING the season please tell me of one thing Favre has done that has been self-centered? Does anyone play the game harder? Does anyone make less excuses? I really really like Favre (hate how he has handled everything though....just to make that clear)

that's not really the point - he's a self-centered piece of **** in the off-season, so I have to assume he doesn't change much during. It's harder to retire/un-retire during the seasons I guess.

-> He plays hurt when it is in the teams best interest to have a healthy QB.

->He forces passes that result in picks

-> He plays for a division rival to settle a personal score.

He has already worked with the offensive coordinator and he knows the offense like the back of his hand. They are a super bowl contending team. Good offensive line to keep him healthy. plays in dome. IF you look at the situation it is a perfect fit for Favre

Nobody is loved more by their old teammates than Favre. Besides Thomas Jones name a bad thing said about the man
 
I'm sure Vikings players have similar setiments too. Jones wasn't the only unhappy Jets player either.

On Monday, fourth-year safety Kerry Rhodes told the paper: "If he's dedicated and he wants to come back and do this, and do it the right way ... and be here when we're here in training camp and the minicamps and working out with us ... then I'm fine with it. But don't come back if it's going to be halfhearted or he doesn't want to put the time in with us."

This is really simple to understand

Vikings gave him an ultimatum. You have to be here by training camp. When that time came he still wasn't sure he could play. He had just found out that there was a tear in his rotator cuff. He decided he couldn't commit to play.

He kept throwing and practicing with the high school kids (whom he seems to love helping out) and than on Monday the Vikings came calling again. This was a full 2 to 3 weeks after he turned them down and at this time he felt better about his arm and decided he could play.

I really don't believe conspiracy theories like some people.

Brett Favre has out T.O.'d T.O. Call a spade a spade, his life is nothing if he isn't the center of the N.F.L. universe. Favre was genuine, but fame and money and being in the soptlight changes a person, and usually not for the better.

Training camp is not important: It's pretty obvious that one of the key sticking points for Favre was attending training camp in Mankato. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Favre told one Vikings player that if he didn't have to go to training camp and live in a college dorm, he probably would have said he could play three weeks ago. That's confusing because Favre said three weeks ago he didn't feel like he could make it through a season physically. He made no mention about his disdain for camp at that time. It will be pretty tough for coach Childress to ever convince the players that training camp is important going forward now that they clearly were willing to let Favre get out of it this year.

Suffice to say, I've yet to speak with a Packer or Jet who wishes Favre was still playing for their team.
