Favre's dad died while he was playing as well.

True, but the two deaths were very different circumstances. And while it's never easy to lose your father, I think having him shot and dumped in a creek and not found for 2 weeks would be a little more traumatic. At that time, when Jordan retired, he was still in the prime of his career. I think most people understood that his initial retirement was based more on emotion than anything else.

How about Roger Clemens. What is the difference between Jordan, Favre, and Clemens?

Roger Clemens was WAY different. He started retiring and unretiring after drug testing. As a retired player he couldn't be tested in the offseason but thought that he NEEDED steroids to be able to comepete at the level he wanted. He would train and dope the entire offseason then ween himself off. As soon as his **** was clear, he unretired.

Your better than this 85...how can you compare a guy that routinely is among the league leaders in int's, and basically was responsible for his last coach being fired to the most clutch player in the history of the NBA?...hell, Jordan about got the Wizards to the playoffs WAAAAY past his prime, while Favre threw 22 picks last year to go with his 22td's, and completely blew the Jets chances for the playoffs, when they appeared to be all but a lock.

Favre definitely makes into into more of a media thing and the media just runs with it. But Favre is partly to blame for that because hes the one who sits down with the media for interviews saying hes officially done. He just makes it into more of a soap opera than mj ever did.

Did you not watch his interview? He retired and than Childress called him up on Monday. He didn't retire and than unretire just to skip out on mini-camp. Anyone who believes that is looking for a good conspiracy theory

Also listen to the story he told about his 10 year old daughter and tell me if you think he is telling the truth

As for MJ. It was on the news forever that he MAY come back. It's just that it wasn't as heavily covered b/c the media wasn't as bad back than. AND b/c he was Michael Jordan and thus everybody wanted him to come back. But make no mistake about it, MJ and Favre are the same. They still believe they are the best and can win titles. That is what makes them two of the greatest of all time. What Favre did was no different than what MJ did

Favre and MJ are no way in the same. Favre retired at the end of his career when he should of retired. MJ retired at the height of his career due to personal trajedy. Favre did change his mind to get out of training camp and if you don't beleive that, then take off the goggles. Favre is not a team player, just ask the New York Jets. MJ came back and was still the best in the game. Favre is going to come back and won't even be the best qb in his division, or even second best. Favre is coming back to stick it to green bay and that is the only reason.

Not to mention, he's not nearly as good as everyone is making him out to be. If I were told that I would be getting a 40ish year old QB who last year was 21st in the NFL in passing rating, and lead the league in INT's with 22, I'd not be real confident about my team. But, I suppose to each their own.

A big reason surrounding MJ's first retirement was the death of his father if I remember correctly. His head wasn't in it.

Also, people are sick of the Favre mess because he played the whole "I may retire" game for his last several years in GB. People are sick of the 'retirement' threats and reversals.

In 2001-2002, Jordan only played 40 some games because he had knee surgery half way through the season, not because he was old and wore down like Favre did for the Jets last year. Here's my prediction for Favre this season, he'll brake his hip around week 7 and by week 10 he will be the head spokesmen for Hoveround!

There was plenty of scrutiny in Chicago when MJ left and went to the Wizards. I don't know about the rest of the country. The main difference is that he didn't go to a team in the division. Packer fans didn't like Brett going to the Jets, but going to the Vickings is a totally different deal. That would be like MJ going to the Wizards and then the next year going to the Pacers. If MJ went to the Pacers it would have been the same situation.

Everyone seems to be forgetting that there were very strong rumors that MJ had been "asked" to retire due to his gambling problem. It was supposedly a way for him to bow out gracefully without damaging his - and the league's - reputation.

Also, haven't there been multiple players in the NFL, NBA, and MLB that have used the retire/unretire route to get out of their contracts with a team in order to get with the team they want?

I'm not saying what Favre did is right, just not all that unusual.

I agree totally. He'll come in, request his own personal locker room, kitchen, film room, weight room, PT room, and will be way above having to do the things required by the rest of the team. He will come out and have a few good games, then fall apart dividing the whole team in the process. He will take no guidance from Childress and the coaches and will laugh at any attempt to help him out with any weaknesses. By the end of the year, the Vikings, who before this was one good QB short of a superbowl caliber team, will not make the playoffs, will have way more problems at the end of the year with team philosophy and unity, and Childress will be fired as head coach(which might be the only good thing about signing the drama queen).

But Favre will walk away having to play no more then the season and will have $12 million more greeny's in his pocket. Then he plays everybody for another year.

How can anyone who is a Vikings fan and an objective thinker feel that Favre isn't going to destroy a team like he did to the Jets last year?? That's the question I have....

The biggest difference is MJ didn't make it a yearly spectacle like Favre has. When MJ retired the first time (some think it was a suspension) that was it, no drawn out "I'm not sure, I have to sit down with the family and think about it for 2 months" crap. When he came back, again not a drawn out then and the 2nd retirement was pretty much the same way. By the time he finally retired for good he pretty much closed the door on a return. It wasn't a yearly thing where we heard about it for months before a decision came which with Favre it was almost a daily thing about him leaning 1 way or the other.

Personally I hope Favre flops big time in Minnesota and just sucks this year so there is no doubt that he's finally retired once and for all.
