I don't remember people going nuts like this when MJ came out of retirement twice! I would like to here people's thoughts on this.

Why the heavy scrutiny for BF and such love for MJ?

A lot of people thought MJ was silly for coming out of retirement that second time. Personally, I wished he would have gone to a contender and played as needed - just loved watching him play and on a team that was already good, he could have kept playing for years.

There is no difference. At least Favre still has some game left. Favre coming back now is a top 15 QB easy. MJ coming back for the freaking wizards (lol..) was not even a top 30 player in the NBA.

A few differences: MJ didn't "retire" and "un-retire" in back to back years. MJ also did not make it into a circus. And finally, MJ didn't "retire" simply to get out of preseason practice. He worked his *** off to be the best he could be.

He didn't make it a circus?!?! He went to play freaking baseball!! He sure as hell made it a circus

I am sure Favre doesn't work his *** off as well. He just sets NFL records by sitting on his *** all day

As a Cowboys fan and fan of all Cowboys past and present, I'm glad Favre is doing this. Favre is killing his current image. Long term people will forget about all this garbage. Same as we forgot about Mike.

Good point. That is my feeling on Favre. Love watching the guy play. Thing it is stupid for him to go back and forth but love that he came back to play for a contender. Watching him in the playoffs will be a lot of fun

MJ didn't change his mind every other week like Favre has for the past 3 months.

Also, practicing with high school kids does not make you the best player possible, nor does it help your team.

Remember it is different now than it was 15 years ago. Media is 10X worse. Internet, phones, tv. Rumors spread like fire where as they didn't 15 years ago. Who knows MJ could have changed his mind as well

What was Favre suppose to do? Practice with players on his imaginary team? :biglaugh:

I still think it's completely different. MJ left to try to compete at a different sport. Which I think he made it a circus by trying to do but he didn't waver on his decision all the time. We've spent an entire summer listening about what Favre will or won't do. We never did that with MJ. He could've just said, I want to play or don't want to play and have it be the end of it. It was a soap opera and only has confirmed my suspicion that Favre is one of the biggest Prima Donas out there. A tough and gritty Prima Dona, but one nonetheless.

Or he could've ponied up and went to training camp.

Did you not watch his interview? He retired and than Childress called him up on Monday. He didn't retire and than unretire just to skip out on mini-camp. Anyone who believes that is looking for a good conspiracy theory

Also listen to the story he told about his 10 year old daughter and tell me if you think he is telling the truth

As for MJ. It was on the news forever that he MAY come back. It's just that it wasn't as heavily covered b/c the media wasn't as bad back than. AND b/c he was Michael Jordan and thus everybody wanted him to come back. But make no mistake about it, MJ and Favre are the same. They still believe they are the best and can win titles. That is what makes them two of the greatest of all time. What Favre did was no different than what MJ did

How about Roger Clemens. What is the difference between Jordan, Favre, and Clemens?

Wait, I think we had phones 15 years ago

I think another thing to remember is MJ's father's death. His murder was obviously a big part of MJ's first "retirement". Can't say I would be thinking real clearly after that.

Cell phones that texted, sent pictures, got the internet, etc. I think you get my point

Favre's dad died while he was playing as well.

I will give you the media thing. And MAYBE it would've been different with MJ back then. But I do not think Favre is one of the greatest of all time, unless we are talking about the Top 50. I think he's great, don't get me wrong, I just do not have a Madden Man Crush on the guy. Almost every year he's played he's been one of the best QB's, but I just don't think he's one of the greatest ever. He's a very tough guy, which I think is why people tend to love the guy so much. He's an old schooled hard nosed Football Player.

As far as his daughters story, it's a soap opera. It's a sweet story and I'm not saying he's lying, but it was exactly the type of thing I expected to hear at the press conference. It's not just that Favre did this one time, he's done it twice. I do not think this is such a great thing for the Vikings. Favre has been a great story in years past, and I'm tired of hearing about him. He's going to be an OK QB and he's going to get more press than anyone. He is no MJ and will never ever be in that same league as an MJ. Favre was a fantastic QB that has many years of success. But he isn't the greatest. I'm pretty sure that a majority of the country could care less about Favre, but MJ, you had the whole world looking forward to his return.

Even if he isn't a top player of all time, he is probably the most popular player of all time (until the last 2 years but who knows going forward) and thus the attention shown for him by the media in comparison to MJ

Yep. I agree. He's one of the most popular. I think people are tired of the attention put on him mostly and that may be the difference. Maybe back in the day it would've been different if we spent 6 months talking about MJ possible return or not.
