Dendy to Kentucky?

I really think people are reading too much into the thread title. "Dendy to Kentucky" means Kentucky is on the way to South Carolina.

They changed it to a different game, but they didn't kill it, unless you're really insisting that halfcourt basketball is the pure game or something.

Part of basketball's beauty is that it is such a versatile game that can be played several different ways.

Well, you are right, sort of. It CAN be played in different ways but the problem is it's not. Almost everyone plays the same "coach is the star/in control, way. Pressing and fast breaks are as quaint as peach baskets. The game is played as a series of 35 second mini-games, more often than not, mind-numbingly dull.

Look at the recently played national championship game. You'd have no problem imagining that it was McDermott versus Lickliter on the sidelines. There would however be 2 huge differences. (1) better players (2) better players who didn't hate their coach.

The 3point shot and shot clock have killed BB, if that helps.

I think the shot clock saved college basketball. I'm old enough to remember Notre Dame in the Digger days run 4-corners for the last 6 minutes of each half (I think in a game vs. UCLA). Of course, they scored in the final seconds each half, and won. Yecch.

I'm glad they eventually moved from 45-second clock to 35 seconds.

3-point shot was an exciting addition at first. In the long-run, its evolution killed the mid-range jumper. Players came up being either an inside player or a gunner. There was no reason to develop a 15-foot shot ... just push it out 4 more feet and get an extra point, or drive in to try to get a layup.

The 3-pointer did pretty much kill the zone defense as a viable strategy.

Have to assume this is a joke. Shot clock is very important of basketball and keeps the game interesting, 3 pt shot is great for basketball. So much better than the days where the game was dominated in the post by slow centers.

This sounds very similar to the kid from Nevada that had told everyone from his little town that he was being recruited in football by Cal, UCLA, Oregon, etc... He had letters etc... to allegedly prove it. The people in town ate it up as they had never had a kid from their school play for a D-1 program. The kid had a big press conference, the local tv stations showed up, and basically so did the entire town. The kid played it out and picked up the Cal hat on the table and put it on. The only problem is that word got back to the Cal coaching staff and they had never even heard of him. The kid made the entire thing up and it blew up in his face. This is what I am getting from Dendy telling people that Kentucky is looking at him. Unless he is going to be the equipment manager for Cal I don't buy it for a second. The guy should be playing at Grand View. :biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:

College "recruit's" lie a tale gone horribly wrong - Columnist - ESPN

I remember that. Funny how his original excuse was that he got duped by a "middleman." Then they asked why he never talked with the coaches and that's when it all unraveled.

Dendy would have to go to a SEC school because of his inability to do schoolwork.

Listen, I love ISU as much as anyone. And as an alum I want a degree from ISU to mean something.

But does this sort of comment make you somehow feel better about yourself?

The blunt reality is that we ought not cast stones while living in a glass house...how many kids has ISU graduated over that last 20 to 30 years? How did a kid that was illiterate like Lafester Rhodes stay in school at ISU?

Personally, I think we should go back to having a jump ball after every made basket...now that was real basketball!
:jimlad::jimlad::jimlad:

Personally, we might want to eliminate the shot clock since we had so much trouble getting shots off.:biglaugh:

I could give a damn if Dendy was the next MJ. His attitude was poison to any team and that being said, good luck wherever your crappy attitude lands you.

Certain degree programs at ISU are much, much harder and mean much, much more to companies than others. Your Lafester comment...there's a lot of underhanded stuff that goes on between athletes and classes. Athletes = money. They make special exceptions for athletes at most high major schools because although it's dishonest, they will make the university money which could be used for a variety of things in the university. A guy like Brackins staying on the team and doing well on the court makes $$$$$$$$$$$ and some engineering student getting straight A's and being the president of various clubs doesn't make much $$$ at all, if any. If your star player, or someone who contributes a lot and fans love is having trouble in the class room, there will be a lot going on to make sure he stays on the team. You aren't going to get many administration to admit this, but it's true.

Thanks Dad, but I don't think it is any secret that the SEC isn't exactly the place for educational enlightenment. And yes graduating from ISU always makes me feel better about myself, sorry it doesn't do the same for you.

Dendy was athletic and that got him points and rebounds. What got him in trouble was he thought he was still playing at IHCC and their opponents. He really needed to learn how to play at the B12 level, and that involves team concept and smarts.

Hey, I understand the games being played in major college athletics. Unfortunately, some on here seem to think that somehow ISU is above the fray with regard to this and that the SEC is very bad about this. The reality is that there is little difference between the two.

That's a pretty bold statement. Maybe you should go take a look at where the SEC schools rank in terms of research and get back to me. I posted a link to a study in one of the Big 10 expansion threads a few weeks back.

You apparently have no facts to back up your assertions. I do.

Lots of ways to slice and dice it but academically speaking there is little difference between the Big 12 and the SEC.
