Defensive End - The one that got away

Humor me this. You get on gocubsgo because he makes a statement that is probably true (most walk ons don't pan out like Jesse Smith did). Then you call him a d-bag and try and say that he has an inflated sense of entitlement because he's posting on a message board anonymously?

What a hypocrite. You're the one that's name calling isu200023. You're the one that's flying off the handle. You're the one acting like a d-bag.

With all due respect to the OP, your BIL sounds like he had a great year and he's a great competitor, but let's not get carried away. He made a decision to leave. Nowhere in your post did you say that a coach told him to leave.

Had GoCubsGo merely said the player could have stayed and hoped to be a starter or even earn some PT that would have been fine. By saying "sticking around for a shot at being a back-up as a senior" he was clearly taking a shot. For that, I retorted. By the way, yes I am a d-bag too. I am ok with it. Remember, buy a ticket and donate it. Go Clones!

frank weymiller, i remember him wrestling for waukon. Isn't he only like 5'11"? He didn't seem very tall. Good story, glad to see him have success- and yes- he is one that got away. Probably one of those guys who was overlooked because he isn't very tall. shame

I think he was probably closer to 6'1" if not taller. The biggest thing that held him back was that he broke his leg prior to or during his senior year of football. Quickness was one of his biggest assets and it took him well over a year to get that back to 100%. If he would have been 100% I think he may have been noticed a little more when he set foot on campus, or been more recruited in the first place.

Oh well, if and buts. I heard he had a good talk with Rhoads when he left and that it was handled well by both parties. Again, good kid, glad to hear he's doing well.

Frank is a good guy, I love to hear that he is doing so well. Always great to hear about a kid from Waukon tearing things up on the gridiron regardless of where he is playing! Keep it up Frank! Thanks for the update D4cy!

serious talent can come out of and/or develop at the D-III level... anyone remember Carey Bender at Coe back in the 90s? just an insane running back.
damn i forgot about bender. he was awesome. my buddy, barry meyer, played running back at a small college in upper iowa (i forget the name) and was teammates with eddie davis (troy and darren's oldest brother) meyer and davis were both all-americans and both put up huge numbers!
