Defense Tonight

We gave up 648 yards and essentially 60 points, if they hadn't taken knee. Had they not put in backups it could have been more. By all means though the defense wasn't historically bad like we are used to though.

I wish ISU could play a bad one dimensional offense with a really bad qb and divided lockerroom each week.

You're probably the same person that would say: yeah, we beat Oklahoma, BUT they are't Baylor....C'mon man! Come to reality, Oklahoma is a top ten team playing at home and our offense did NOT give this D much of a chance.

Some fans are NEVER happy. I feel for them, because I still feel that we could end up in the middle of the Big 12 when the season is over. Is that good enough for any of you haters (being in the middle of the pack with a new young QB)?

Yep. Nice missed tackles offense! Way to allow all those points offense! If the defense had scored at all, we would've been right in it!

our defense didn't give our offense much of a chance. when you give up 21 points in the blink of an eye it pretty much f's over the offensive game plan. OU Defense can t off at that point.

The defense was so poor that if this game was part of the NFL redzone channel they would have needed to show OU the minute they got the ball because their redzone started on their own 10.

We face another dynamic offense next week. Hopefully we make them work a little harder for their scores.

We just dont have talent (speed, size, strength) on the defensive side of the ball. Wally is pulling all of the levers he has available - we just don't have the players needed.

If I hadn't looked at the stats for possession time, I'd disagree with you. Normally the excuse everyone likes to give is that our D get tired after being on the field for so long. And normally, that does seem to be the case.

But we had the ball for longer than OU. Neither the offense nor the defense were playing at OU's level.

If there is one place in the Big 12 that you have to give ISU a break, it is on the road at Norman. That is the toughest place to play. Results are disappointing, but not surprising. They slobberknock even out best teams.

The first qtr was rough but the 2nd and 3rd the D played well. They gave the offense plenty of chances to get us back I the game. In our league, that's what you have to expect. We aren't going to hold good teams to under 30 points, the offense has to keep us in it when the D gives them a chance. They didn't do that last night. Settling for FG's one the drive where Lanning missed Wesley for a TD and the drive following the fumble, had more to do with OU pulling away than how the defense played.

We have up 52 points and almost 700 yards. Defense was anything but alright

Okie St gave up nearly 700 yards and won by 20. These offenses are going to put up yards regardless, if our offense hold the ball and finishes drives, it takes a ton of pressure off the defense. By the 3rd quarter they were gassed, OU's offense plays at a tempo designed to wear out and attack the defense. Our offense only helped out that strategy.

As long as we could extend the OU drive beyond a second play, we did all right.
I'm going to take that and pretend that we were wearing OU down, so they responded with their lightning strike style of play.

Best moral victory spin ever right there.

I guess I understand football a little different. Down 21 to 3 IN THE FIRST QUARTER, all our offensive options were on the table. We didn't go pass-happy hurry-up. We DID do three 3-and-outs and one 3-and-an-interception - which was 7 of the 21. Even settling for field goals, we were only down 21-9 at the half. All that said, I'm still happy that the offense came back and tried to compete in the second half. We got beat in all phases of the game by a superior team. As Coach Orr used to say, some nights you just run into a buzz saw. Our guys need to watch the tape once and then burn it.

The defense was horrible in the 4th quarter, and did give up way too many big plays, but only 21 points at the half was pretty acceptable. ISU had 9 and should have scored TD on a couple of those FG attempts. There was plenty of places to place blame last night. I am mostly concerned about the play calling, the QB accuracy, the inability to catch the ball, and tackling. Hopefully the team will play a lot better in Ames next week.

For some reason OU always seems extra sharp against ISU, way more focused than most of the bowl games they have been in the last 10 years.

Since losing to Texas, OU is averaging ~60 ppg. They are angry, motivated, and taking it out on people.

ISU defense made some plays, and it's encouraging to me that they made a few - shows some real ability. The problem is OU is real real good on offense in every way. You need a great defense to stop those guys consistently-- our guys are good, but not great.

So between TTU and OU, 2 games, they have given up 118 points and just shy of a MILE in yardage? Thanks Mangino!

Probably Manginos fault the defense does not know how to take angles or tackle either. I hope they can double fire him. Obviously it isn't on Rhoads because he has never done anything with defense before.

OU, bigger, faster, stronger, plus our team gave the Sooners too many opportunities. OU wants to be in the playoff very badly; I think they win out and get in. I agree with CW, OU is the best team in the Big 12.
