You couldn't see the balcony with the old lights, either.
The previous lighting system got to the point it could hardly be maintained anymore (it was about 45 years old). They didn't replace it solely for the sake of an 'improvement' although there are cost and flexibility benefits (can turn off and on instantly and make adjustments). I've noticed this year that new system has been adjusted a little so that the balcony and upper part of the parquet are more clearly visible when you're in Hilton compared to the last few years. But on television looks about the same.
Turns out the camera tends to be focused on the court more than the upper deck.
I still long for the days when the students were in pods intermingled with the rest of the crowd. I swear it helped get everybody involved and made Hilton a LOT louder. Watch that Lafester game video. Crazy.
Could be wrong but I think broadcasters are requiring higher light levels on the court than have been standard in the past which is why arenas are moving away from the more yellow, dimly lit settings. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the broadcasters too that are pushing for the lights to be focused on the court and just the lower level of bleachers while leaving the upper levels dark, to present a more stage-like appearance for TV viewers.

Didn't need to. Listening to Justice basically gives you a lobotomy without the surgery. Much cheaper that way.
I'd love to see this as well!! Probably a $7-$9M project if you look at what Creighton put in almost a decade ago

I think some of the newer scoreboards like the bradley center are going for 3M ish. but who knows these days. that is a lot of money!
Some posters care way too much about the lighting.
I don't mind the fence, but moving students further from the court lessens the home court advantage. There have been several studies at this point, the advantage comes from fans psychologically pressuring refs for favorable calls. You want them as loud and close to the action as possible.

I saw it was to make changing from basketball to other sports easier and "safety concerns" with the chairs. Literally never saw anyone get hurt because of a chair. In reality they reduced seating and moved fans away from the court.
The first two rows of the bleachers are already at the same height instead of staggered, so it may make it even harder to see if there were chairs added in front.
The fence seemed pretty sturdy at the women's game this weekend, but I'm not as strong as I used to be. I'd assume if my kids had about 15 minutes to mess with it they'd be able to break it like most of their nice things.
Probably KUs fault. Never know when someone might pick up a chair and try and assault someone.
Is it possible that he is a student though?
