Good point by Jamie, but at the same time bring the gators up here. The game i think would be interesting and a for sure sell out. Id even still play Iowa that year. Just schedule a real cupcake for the 3rd game.
I'd just like to point out that Florida has played two FCS teams this year.
Yep. Especially in the BCS era, it didn't matter who you lost to. It mattered how early in the season you lost. OSU had a really good argument to have the title spot over Bama that year.
And if not add some sort of other tournament where P6 teams play or something.

Florida also plays Florida State (ACC) every year fwiw. This year, they opened with Miami (Fla). (ACC) @ Orlando too, so the Gators have 10 P5 games this Regular Season. The Seminoles are down now, but Florida was playing them every year during the Seminole Dynasty Run from 1987-2001 TOO (often to their demise) and many times had to play in the SEC Championship Game the week after that blood feud. I applaud Florida for looking for other teams in other regions to play OOC (in addition to FSU). Personally, I'd love for Jamie Pollard @ Iowa State to answer the tweet with an offer to play.
I dont think its necessarily a shot at Florida, its a shot at the SEC conference as a whole. LSU this year- 4 OOC games- Georgia Southern, Northwestern State, Utah State and Texas.
I loved that year. Since then, I've felt the same, that the Iowa game should be our Iron Bowl and should always be at the end of the season.
A couple of weeks ago, ESPN writer Bill Connelly suggested SEC should drop its divisional format.
He cited examples of how infrequently some teams meet:
- Auburn and Florida have played each other only once in the past 11 seasons.
- Georgia is playing A&M for first time as a conference opponent this year.
- LSU doesn’t play at Missouri until 2023, 11 years after A&M and Missouri joined SEC.

Why SEC needs to scrap divisions
Six conferences with 10 teams, round robin schedule with home/away rotation. One more game must be against one of the other 50 schools in the big conferences. The remaining two games can be against whoever. Six team playoff of conference winners. Reward two byes for best two teams.
What makes sense is the SEC understanding that there's a possibility or probability the next media deal will not be quite so straightforward and lucrative, so adding value with another P5 makes sense. However, in the case of Florida and some of the other SEC teams that are already playing an OOC P5 game and are looking for a second OOC P5 game, it makes way more sense to go to 9 conference games.
Competitively speaking, it has been very advantageous for the SEC to use their current approach. While they are probably overrated, most metrics show them consistently #1 most years, and they've had a handful of high profile OOC games and do well in them. Unlike basketball SOS does not help that much. There's no advantage for a P5 team to schedule a meatgrinder.
I had to go check myself. Holy smokes batman, they really played 2 FCS schools this year and are talking about strength of schedule.
This is going to be awkward when Iowa State and Florida face off in the Sugar Bowl.
Read through the yearly schedules for Georgia back to 2001 or so. They went many years without playimg Bama in the regular season (don't count CCG's in the number of times they played).
