DeAndre Kane visiting next week

I'm picturing a tougher, better defending Chris Allen. Except this time we'll have a natural point guard, Morris, to step in right away or be worked in slowly, and ready for big 12.

Maybe you're thinking about athleticism... Because I don't think he'll shoot anywhere close as good as Allen shot. I think Blum's got the right idea when he says he's a bigger Jake Anderson - which is great. He could score inside and outside, handle it when necessary, play D, and rebound like crazy.

So maybe this has already been answered but where is his scholarship coming from? Looks like we're chalk full already.

Someone posted earlier he heard a JUCO isn't going to make it to campus. Edoize is already in Ames so probably not him. Staff has talked a lot about Hogue so I would think he's off the chopping block too. IMO, it's probably Bluford only for the fact there was a lot of questions if he would qualify to transfer here anyways.

The redshirt idea for Long is interesting. I am still as high on Long as I am for SDW. Hines tweeted last November that the staff saw Long as an off-guard. i think we saw that last season in Long's play and minutes once bubu came back. Still, when they needed someone to fill in at backup pg and not redshirt they picked Naz. As a rs upperclassman I think Nazi could play at the level we just saw from guys like Babb, KL, Scotty, etc

Redshirting Naz doesn't solve the scholarship situation, however. Not saying you thought it did but some people think that's how it works.

Per the CF one-on-one interview with Coach Hoiberg, Fred was quoted as saying that Sadler was an important get because of his connections to JUCOs and "We will have four of them on our team this year. That is something again that was attractive about Doc."

So our JUCOS include:
Bluford, Edozie, Amardi, Hogue --- as of Friday a.m., they are still on the team -- according to CFH.

For some reason I don't think he is going to like the nickname you appear to be trying to hang on him.

It hasn't been answered and likely won't be anytime soon.

I think we have started going with the Marquette philosophy of recruiting and just signed as many guys as possible and let the chips fall where they may...

....Or....

Hoiberg has brought his NBA mindset along with him and is now telling kids they have to make the team before getting a contract, i mean scholarship...

On paper... Which roster is better? This past year's team or next year's team? Just curious.

About equal in my opinion. Last years starters may be better, but the depth of the team wasn't very good. Morris, Thomas, Kane is a big step down from Lucious, Babb, Clyburn but those 3 could still be a very good back court. Meanwhile the depth got so much better from last year. I'd say this years but really who knows.

That's a great question and I look forward to the responses, but I think you'd have to say this year's team because we're at least returning Niang and Ejim who have scoring and rebounding, respectively, covered statistically. Last year we lost our top three leading scorers and there was little reason to think our small lineup (which ended up being very sucessful) could hold their own down low. I remember how much CFers doubted our chops down-low once conference play started last year and I have to admit I was right there with them. BUT, Ejim took a huge step forward last year and I feel like both Niang and Ejim have the Big 12's attention, no doubt.

Not sure about that. I don't think Fred takes him this late unless he knows something is up with someone that currently has a scholarship. I think we'll know here pretty soon.

Oh definitely Fred has this handled. I meant more that we won't know who/what right away and I strongly dislike msg board speculation on who "should walk the plank". Fred is paid the big buck to have those conversations with the necessary player.

Until they play I would have to say last years team has the better roster. Clyburn, Babb, McGee, Lucious, Ejim, and Niang. Your talking about a team that had a chance to maybe go the final four if they beat OSU. Outside of Niang, Ejim, and Kane none of the others have proven themselves at the Div 1 level.

I think next year will have the best depth we have had in a long time. Not necessarily experience. But I believe the talent drop from 1-5 to 6-9 won't be as pronounced. In fact, I am a little worried about bruised egos with minutes.

However, on paper, I still give the nod to this past year's squad. Lucious, Clyburn, Babb, and McGee are tough to replace. Throw in Booker when he wasn't sulking. He gave some good minutes and even more fouls.

This, when that team was "on" they played with Final Four caliber play. KU to the wire, OkSU to the wire. OSU to the wire in the dance.

Yes, I agree in retrospect. But I read the "on paper" clause to mean how it looked from a preseason standpoint, and there were legitimate questions that were answered last year (Clyburn's role/is Clyburn a big 12 player/is Clyburn strong enough/Ejim's ability to shoot well enough/Lucious's turnover ratio/overall team DEFENSE/rebounding).

Preseason, there were questions. Although I agree with you that they were answered throughout the year and the team ended being great and so much fun to watch.

But I think the conference will be down next year so we can still finish 3rd with less talent. In fact, I think we had a realistic shot at 3rd even without Kane. OSU and KU should be really good, if not great teams. Then us and Baylor. Then everyone else. Texas and WVU are running players off. OU and KSU can't be anything but worse. They both lost so much from this past year. TCU and TTech can only go up but they both have a looooong way to go.

So, team may not be as good but finish higher than last year.
