DeAndre Kane visiting next week

I remember someone asked Babb who was the next lock down defender under Fred and he said Naz

Even if he doesn't start or get major minutes this year, I could see him being used at the end of close games when we need someone to harass the opponent's PG. He would be fresh and bring that defensive intensity, but also let a scorer take a little breather before they come back in to hit clutch shots. He and Kane look like they could be quite disruptive on the court at the same time.

I think people are discounting Long. He can defend. They can play him at multiple positions. I see him progressing similar to Tharpe at KU.

Nearly every recruit is a risk of some sort or another. Some are academic risks, some are behavioral risks, some are risks of being a wasted scholarship because of lack of performance, etc. Thus far Fred's transfer risks have faired better than his high school risks have.

By the way, someone mentioned Godfrey as a Fred example of showing a bad actor the door. Don't forget that Fred had the pleasure of dealing with an issue like that in his very first week on the job. While Boozer was not the same caliber of player it was just as hard of a blow because Fred had nobody when he took the job and even a role player like Boozer could have made a difference that first year.

Agree with this completely. Vaughn and Abu are exceptional players, but I would almost rather have Abu than Vaughn. Abu could help us in the position we need dire help with the most, (the post). Melvin Ejim leaves after this season, and Percy Gibson will be gone after two seasons. That basically leaves us with Niang as a good big for us.

Abu is going to be a great post player!

Agreed, something tells me Cunningham and Davis are our best bets. Crossing my fingers for either Abu or Vaughn but that will be a couple tough gets.

Watching his tape, he seems like Melvin 2.0 too. Very similar play but has a slightly bigger body that fits the position better.

Yeah, I just wonder how many times you can roll the dice on players like this before something bad happens. Spitting on a fan, beating a guy while someone holds him...not worth the risk, imo.

Knock yourself out worrying about it. I won't.

The hawk fan base is whinny because Fred continues to bring in quality basketball players that make ISU NCAA worthy. They are hypersensitive to all of this stuff even though it has nothing to do with them. The best part? It appears they have accepted the commitment of their second transfer under Franny. However, it's different for iowa. Because.

Hawk fans whine about every program that brings in anyone with a past. Instant thug label.

They confuse that term with Instant NCAA Tourney label, something they don't know anything about.

Oh, how I hate to do this, but Iowa does have some history going to the NCAA tourney...just not in anyone's recent memory.

Whew! Sorry, my evil twin had to post for a minute - carry on!

He's right. Here's evidence:

It's complete and utter jealousy is what it is. If Fran had just gotten Kane, Iowa fans would LOVE it!

Over on HawkeyeReport they are all super excited about some rumor of them possibly getting a transfer. I mean they are foaming at the mouth right now wondering who it might be and what it might mean for them.

But hey, transfers are bad. They are all thugs. Especially the ones like Kane that have already graduated from a 4 year college. What a thug. But transfers like Uthoff are just fine. He's just a great kid from Iowa.

Oh, and Fred boots players from the team to make room for these transfers according to Iowa fans as well. Although Ingram is now leaving their program, and there are rumors going around that Fran is looking at bringing in a transfer to replace him. But that's ok. Ingram left on his own, because Fran would never do such a thing.

I don't think Fred boots players off the team, but I'll bet you anything that he's honest with them about what kind of playing time they can expect while at ISU. And if they aren't content with that, I'm sure he works with finding the best situation for them somewhere else where they can get a lot more minutes and possibly even start. I see nothing wrong with that. These kids love the game of basketball and just want to play and compete. Some don't want to see 3 mins a game only at garbage time in the end. I can't blame them.
