DeAndre Kane visiting next week

I'm not implying ISU is doing anything wrong......I'm just curious as to when the scholarship limits kick in and are applied? It appears things are pretty fluid and flexible.

They count when the semester begins (or student is enrolled). Just have to be at the correct number at that point. Don't worry about it; it will work itself out.

All these transfers make me wonder about something. When exactly do the scholarship limits kick in?

I mean, when Nader was visiting and offered the financial assistance from ISU, technically, KO was still on scholarship, on the roster, and it had not been announced he was leaving. Plus, all the seniors were still on scholarship, LOI's had been signed by all the incoming freshmen and Jucos (as far as we know) so where was the scholarship that ISU had to offer?

Now, here we go again. It would appear ISU does not have a scholarship to offer, yet they are taking a visit from another transfer.

Didn't Nader just sign very recently?

Well, they just announced it today, as far as I know......but the point was they were offering him the aid when it would appear at the time that they would not have had it available.....KO was still here.

I was just wondering. It just seems the rule, or at least how it is applied is kind of loose.

It's no different than having 10 2014 offers out when there will only be 3 spots.

Not exactly the same thing. You are not making those offers when you are already apparently full on scholarships with current players or signed recruits. But what you pointed out also makes it appear to be a pretty loose system.

All that matters from a technical standpoint is that no more than 13 players are on financial aid in any given semester.

Suffice it to say Hoiberg has a plan in mind for where the scholarship comes from

I think one year Tim Floyd had 19 potential players counting the players with elligibility remaining who could have returned plus the new committments. He just weeded them out over the summer until he only had 13 remaining at the start of the fall semester.

I don't understand the appeal of this guy.

We don't want a year off from the dance. Starting 2 freshman guards or 1 Freshman and Bubu isn't going to get us dancing. This guy fills an immediate need for this coming season to get us to post season. Fred isn't interested in finishing in the bottom half of the Big 12.

Except we have to dump a current player to get him.
I suppose. But I cotinue to find that hard to believe.

I too find it hard to believe that Bubu would go off scholarship. But we don't know for sure a player is being dumped either. Quite possible someone decided that he wants to play 30 minutes a game, and that's not going to happen at ISU.

I'd really like to believe that we don't force players out. Worst case scenario, I hope Fred tells them they're unlikely to get significant minutes, and it's up to them whether they want to stay or leave. If they choose to stay, I hope Fred leaves it at that, and doesn't put any further pressure thereafter.

We don't force anyone out but don't think for a second the staff isn't up front with the kids about their future role. Can't blame someone for leaving if the rotation doesn't involve them much.

Unfortunately that's college athletics, you have to do some shady things to stay ahead, you are naive if you think this happens everywhere but Iowa State...
