Davenport drownings

Sounds like an investigation for Dateline. I can see it now one guy poisoned by a scorned lover and the other guy is a unintended victim of a love affair gone wrong.

Now here's you host Keith Morrison.

Electrocution that caused them to drown would be my guess. In almost all of these cases, either the wiring, grounding, or bonding (or any combination thereof) was done incorrectly.

Only get near a struggling swimmer from behind. It is one of the first things they teach you in life guard class.
Also youre supposed to kick off people as a lifeguard if they're putting you in risk of drowning. That's a tough one to learn and practice.

Happens often.

Are you saying this happens often to grown men in backyard pools? Honestly never heard of this particular scenario happening before. Seems weird to me that a grown man wouldn’t know how to swim.

It’s not weird that they don’t know how to swim. It IS weird that they couldn’t kick up and get to the surface. We aren’t talking a lake or river with water flowing fast and debris.

My point is that if one person is drowning, it is not uncommon for the person trying to save them to drown as well, regardless of location. Nothing more, nothing less. I've seen it almost happen 1st hand.

Two men swinmming in a pool alone isn't even a frequent thing, let alone both drowning. I mean, home swimming pools (with depth) aren't even overly common.

Picking nits on a message board is though.

Yeah, if you could keep from panicking it would be easy to sink to the bottom of an 8' pool and kick up to get a breath. Big 'if'

Well yeah we all know it happens but the conversation was about two grown men drowning in a backyard pool, which I would say is very uncommon. Especially for two men who “loved being in the water”.

And all home swimming pools have depth, some just have more than others. How’s that for nitpicking? :p
