Saw on Twitter that Dan Kelly from CF committed today. State finalist last year, I think at 138. Good pickup.

Shawn Kelly's son is going to be a Cyclone??? Is Dan going to be allowed to family gatherings?

I got it wrong. Shawn is Mike's dad. So this is Shawn's nephew.

Dan Kelly is the dad. They were in the Ankeny program until Dan became a freshmen and wanted to wrestle for his cousin Wil.

Meh.... he got manhandled in state championship match this year. The kid that beat him is going to wrestle for Grand View I believe.

3 time place winner that is probably going to Iowa State on very little if any money. Good addition. Welcome Dan!

Don't get me wrong, I hope the kid is great. But there's a reason Iowa wasn't interested.

He's pretty darn good, just not great IMO. But he could develop into something great with enough work.

Josh Wenger, the kid he lost to, is damn good. Maybe not as much of a D1 prospect since he's already so damn strong, but it's not like Grand View is some terrible wrestling school either. I'm sure he had options. Kelly is a solid pickup and I think he'll contribute here at some point.

Yes, I'm very aware of Josh Wenger. He's very good. I thought he'd be going to a D1 school to wrestle. He just manhandled Kelly. Kelly had no chance.

Although, Kelly had beaten Josh earlier in the year I believe, so there's that. And Kelly won the state title the year before also I think. So he has potential. Just kind of a "meh" commit IMO, that's all. Worth taking a chance on, but will have to get a LOT stronger.

Says he's gotten bigger already, wrestled at 138 but projects at 149/157 here.

Wrestling's a sport where, at least to me, every commit is fairly exciting, and getting a guy I just assumed would go to UNI or Iowa is cool to me.

Not everybody has to agree, but I just don't think him losing in the state finals to a guy that was a bad matchup for him makes it a "meh" commit. Glad to have him here.

How is adding a late walk-on considered "taking a chance on". If someone starts there post with " meh" it's a dead give away that they're probably a tool

Actually, being a runner-up is what interested the coaches since he wasn't even supposed to wrestle in District due to injury. They liked the toughness that he showed.
