*** Cyclone Fanatic Sitcom Tournament: Selection Show ***

Agreed. Feels like overweighting the 70s-90s shows and some notable omissions among newer shows as well as some of the older shows

Just off the top of my head you could make arguments that Ted Lasso, Silicon Valley, and especially The Good Place all could have a place in the field as newer shows. Could probably make some arguments for some 60s shows like Bewitched, Get Smart, or Hogan's Heroes
Yeah the good place omission looms large, season 3 of lasso makes it ok to leave out. Seems like a lot of the premier network shows like Silicon Valley were left off or insanely low rated like Veep.

My Final Four:
NY: 8 Sunny
Scranton: 1 Office
Korea: 2 Mary Tyler Moore
Boston: 4 Curb

Best matchup: 1 Cheers vs Schitts in the 32 round

I'll just continue to pretend that the alternate ending on the train platform was the real one.

So you just informed me that an alternative ending exist, and it it substantially better than the original!

Loving the response even if it's critical. The worst thing we could get was having no response from the public.

A lot of things said are totally valid. We spent alot of time as this isn't something you throw together in a day or 2. There was a ton of shows to consider and nothing was going to be perfect.

Can't wait for the voting to begin.
100% appreciate the work that was involved, absolutely zero criticism is directed towards the people who spent the time putting this together because the concept is awesome! Everyone has their bias when it comes to stuff like this.

Wait you didn’t know that? It’s a million times better and you will hate that it was the alternate. HIMYM is one of my favorite shows of all time.

I would have loved to be a part of the selection committee, but I just don’t have knowledge of sitcoms before the early 90s so I didn’t think I could offer too much direction on what to seed. I also understand that you aren’t going to make everyone happy with something like this, but I do appreciate including more of the older sitcoms.

Yeah, that whole original ending pissed me off too. And they try to cop out with "that was the original ending we had in mind at the beginning". Well great, that'd work if the show got cancelled after a couple seasons but they wrote themselves away from that over 9 seasons and their characters grew past where that ending made sense. Barney grew to be a better person for Robin. Ted literally let Robin float away like a balloon, and they developed a wonderful, platonic, friendship. So if they did want to keep their original ending, they shouldn'tve written themselves away from it so hard. Instead they decided torching several seasons of character development was a great plan.

For future brackets a proper nomination thread will be made for future brackets for both material for future brackets and to ask for help in building a bigger committee. The genesis of this began in a thread I made for a twitter sitcom bracket that only focused on late 80 through today.

The idea was formed in that thread and discussion of a cf sitcom bracket was mixed with people debating the twitter bracket.

This is definitely a bracket that would of benefited from a bigger sized committee.

I would have zero problem taking out "teen seeds" like The Middle or Boy Meets World and replacing with Baskets.
Freaking loved that show.

What annoyed me, is the last season is so focused on Barney’s and Robin’s wedding only for them to end up divorce like five years later.

Same here. I basically made my picks based on reputation.

Swap the Middle, but Boy Meets World deserves to be on there (much higher in my opinion)

Also kinda surprised Freeks and Geeks was allowed with only one season. Shouldn’t have been cancelled but you can’t have a one season show on the bracket
Not speaking on behalf of committee (and we didn’t assess it this way during selection), but for me a sort of parallel to actual NCAAT, Freaks and Geeks is like a team with marginal strength of schedule, a solid NET ranking, no bad losses and performed well against top opponents.

Honestly HIMYM’s series finale has soured one of my favorite shows of all time that I am considering voting for 30 Rock in the first round.
I've warmed to it over time, but I still don't like it. Just felt like a giant cop out and the literal titular character spent about 5 seconds on screen.

Some upsets I could see-

King of Queens (11) over The Wonder Years (6) - Doug Herffernan is a huge threat. Watch for him to get hot.

Dont sleep on Andy Dwyer and the 10th seeded Parks and Recreation.
The 5 seeded Married With Children could come out on top in the KOREA region. Watch for Al Bundy to lead.

The 11/6 matchup of Home Improvement vs. Brooklyn Nine Nine in the Boston region will be a can’t miss matchup. Two shows capable of going far.
