*** Cyclone Fanatic Sitcom Tournament: Elite Eight ***

Comedy movies would need to be made by the kind of comedy. Narrowing a field to 68 comedy movies would be daunting task.
Yeah, it'd be a challenge. I recently jotted some for the category and got more than 50 without even breaking a sweat -- and most of them were probably 1960 thru early 2000s.

Might require siphoning sub-genres such as rom-com, and perhaps limiting to one film per director or such.

I didn't fully appreciate just how great MASH was until I was out of college. Never got into it as a teenager even though the re-runs were on all the time.

Was a big fan of Home Improvement as it aired when I was growing up in the 90's. Still love it today and my kids like it too. It's funny now that you can find just about any show on a streaming service my kids find some of the same shows I liked as a kid such as Full House and some of the TGIF shows that were popular in the 90's.

I think we could do it. One tourney with ALL of the great comedies would be pretty monumental.

But they could also probably be broken out like you said... best sports comedies, best HS/college based comedies, best rom-coms, etc.

Off the top of my head I think my personal #1 seeds for a comedy bracket would be Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Blazing Saddles, Borat (first one) and Anchorman (first one).

MASH was such an interesting show. A comedy with drama elements that morphed in a drama with comedy elements by the end. It lasted over 3 times as long as the actual conflict that was its backdrop. I was old enough to remember the finale and to watch AfterMash, but most of the show I watched in syndication and had seen all of the episodes multiple times by the time I was out of high school. Still one of the most powerful final episodes of all time. It wasn't until many years later that I realized that Trapper John, M.D. was the technically the same character from MASH.

And if anyone is familiar with MASH the TV show but not MASH the movie, which came out in 1970 and was the basis for the series, I'd highly recommend. Donald Sutherland as Hawkeye, Elliott Gould as Trapper, Sally Kellerman as Hotlips, Robert Duvall as Frank Burns. And Gary Burghoff as Radar, he's the only actor who was in both the movie and the series. Great stuff.

Speaking of a comedy tourney...

All the ones seeds have pretty well distanced themselves now.

Is there enough sentiment to going to the final four now?

Comedy #1 seeds would be tough to decide. I’d definitely go with Christmas Vacation and Dumb and Dumber. Maybe Super Troopers, The Hangover, or Anchorman. The Other Guys and Superbad were hilarious as well.

If you’re having a hard time voting between The Office and Parks and Rec, just remember how awful that episode of “Scott’s Tots” was and vote for Parks and Rec. I really couldn’t handle how cringey Michael Scott was a lot of the time.

See I take it the other way....that secondhand embarrassment was off the charts. Steve Carrell was genius.

Coming up with #1 seeds might be tough given the following have already been suggested:

Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Blazing Saddles
Borat
Anchorman
Young Frankenstein
This Is Spinal Tap
Dr. Strangelove
Animal House
Stripes
Christmas Vacation
Dumb and Dumber
Super Troopers
The Hangover
The Other Guys
Superbad

And I would add Wedding Crashers, The Big Lebowski and Stepbrothers.

Where's the love for Adam Sandler? Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore are both 1 seed worthy.

If you do comedy movies, you may need some sort of "pool play" in order to sort out who gets into the tournament. And also, maybe use double elimination for something that gets a really bad seed,
