Cy Hawk Rivalry

The rhetoric from isu fan is that CMC has isu on a straight line trajectory up. No different than what we heard from isu fans with your last coach or the one before.
Our last coach didn't have back to back 8 win seasons, had teams projected to finish in the top 3 of the conference, or projected to be in the top-25 to start the year.. Little bit different.

If you can't tell that things are different compared to the CPR and Danny Mac eras you aren't even trying. For the last two seasons Iowa State has been in every single game. I've said it for years but McCarney benefited from a soft crossover schedule with the South and a weak North. Outside of beating some good Iowa teams he really didn't win many big games.

ISU's success this season hinges entirely on the performance of the OL, and Purdy's health IMO. If the OL is improved, and Purdy stays healthy, I think this season could be REALLY special.

I love Purdy's scrambling ability, and he needs to continue to do that, but he needs to be smart and not take hits like he did at times last year. There were several times last year where he was very slow to get up from taking big hits. If he goes down, I fear the drop off from him to whoever is 2nd string at the time will be pretty big.

And we are also playing another conference game now vs then.

I do not remember anyone saying that about Chizik, we were excited about the quality of recruits he was bringing in, and he was 1-1 vs Iowa, and he was only their 2 years before he left. We really will never know if he would have turned ISU around or not. Rhoads I would agree with, the first few years, it looked like ISU had turned the corner, what few realized was that PR was playing with chizik's recruits and once those kids were gone, his recruiting sucked.
I remember walking out of the stadium after we went for two and faked the extra point against Nebraska, we all felt like it was a great idea, the kid was wide open, and we thought great things are ahead for ISU. Afterward we started wondering, why was the punter the guy that throw the pass instead of a backup QB as the holder. To me, that is when I started to wonder about Rhoads.

So you don't think Campbell is better than Paul Rhoads?
Rhoads is like Kevin Jackson. Good guy, has a nice family, you want them to succeed. You can trust your kids with them.

But, they don't have that intensity or X's and 0's knowledge that Campbell and Dresser have.

TBH, I'm shocked Rhoads landed at Arkansas (albeit they were awful) after the stupid play card fiasco against KState. That should have had him go away for a long time.

Its the same garbage ISU lost Montgomery and Butler, and will therefore suck, but Iowa will just reload after losing their 2 first round TE's and the best WR and not miss a beat.

A lot of it has to do with ignorance.

People see the consistency Iowa has shown over the last 40 years (7+ wins on average per season) and what ISU has done in that same time frame (4+ wins on average per season) and assume that will continue every season.

Most Iowa State fans knew that Chizik's time in Ames was going to be fairly short. When JP hired him the Chiz was one of the hottest names in the country.

There may be some truth to that but there is not a person alive that considers our last coach to be as good as our current coach. Except maybe the Mrs. Basically, what we thought about our last coach's trajectory is irrelevant.

CPR lost me when he went off on his little tantrum making fun of Twitter. You literally have on of the most powerful recruiting resources in your hands and not only do you refuse to lose it but you make fun of it? It was that very moment that I knew he wasn't going to make it.

No. ISU fans understand exactly where we are in reference to the rest of the conference, i.e. personnel and schedule. The vast majority of Cyclone fans, even on message boards, realize that our likely end position is 3rd or 4th in the conference with an outside chance of playing for a conference championship. We nearly accomplished that last piece last season and we return a boatload of starters and key pieces.

Your last sentence would make sense...if the situations were the same. I don't know if you're a next level troll or just not terribly in-tune with the reality of the Cyclone football program, but this staff has produced real, tangible results. Outside entities are picking ISU to finish 3rd in the conference with a shot at more. It's not a made-up fairy tale perpetuated by people living in Story County, Iowa. The sooner you realize this, the easier it will be for you and your brethren to take.

But I am not talking about outsiders, the people saying it are Iowa fans. Its almost like a badge of courage over there that they never watch an ISU game other than when they play Iowa. Like its somehow beneath them to watch one of our games. I watch Iowa when I am not either at the ISU game or they are not on TV, now I do root for the other team, but I do watch.
