Cy-Hawk future & "The Alliance"

Its just part of what sucks about realignment of college football. Rivalries are what make college sports great, but the chasing of more $ leads to losing out on games like Pitt - West Virginia or Nebraska - OU (not a great example currently since they play tomorrow, but you know what I mean) and getting matchups like Vanderbilt - Texas. It is what it is I guess, but it kind of sucks as a fan of college football in general.

One of the things that has always been missing for Iowa State is a true conference rival. There isn't another school that considers us their #1 rival. And there is no other conference school that most Iowa State fans consider a rival. For that reason I would like to see the series against Iowa end. I want to force all of us to focus on the Big 12. To form true rivalries with other conference mates.

I don't think you can force rivalries like that. Penn State hasn't developed a rivalry with big 10 schools even though they have been in a conference for like 30 years. West Virginia hasn't really formed a rivalry with the big 12 schools (outside of kinda us) after not playing Pitt and Virginia Tech for a long time. There is more to forming a rivalry than just playing a team often.

IMO very few things make me think a sports fan is softer than not wanting to play a rival because the other side has annoying fans. Cy Hawk on Twitter is full of people like this (plenty of Hawks) and I worry about their mental health. It’s a ****ing game and it brings together so many parts of the state. Ignore the idiots and enjoy it for what it is. And I will say this 10 times as loudly to any Hawk who doesn’t want to play the game, either.

We had a group of Iowa fans behind us at the CyHawk game who were IRL trolls who were doing their absolute best to ruin the time of every Cyclone fan around them. Unless you suggest we just start bringing brass knuckles to the games to shut them up I'm sick of it.

Oh I agree. It takes years. Usually it is one school beating down another for many years to fuel one side. Then what it takes to form a rival is the tables turning and the other school stringing together some Ws. Unfortunately Iowa State has been stuck in the first scenario for most of its existence. I do think if we beat Kansas State another 5 years or so they might learn to hate us as much as we hate them. :)

Almost every single rivalry that has gone away from realignment was between two teams from the same conference. Cy Hawk isn't really comparable to that.

Aren’t most big rivalries close geographically? Given that most of the closest geographical P5 schools are in the B10, I don’t see anything new developing as long as we’re in the B12. That is unless we somehow take Connecticut’s place in the Civil ConnFLiCT and start something new with UCF :)

The closest school to us in our conference is horrible at football. The second closest is a rival of ours. After that it’s like Oklahoma State or Cincinnati. There is no geographic overlap between those fanbases which really helps form a rivalry. It’s kind of backward to say that we don’t have a true rival so what we should do is stop playing our top rival to form a new one

Which part of that post do you disagree with?

The part where you say it's a lose lose. Didn't read the rest. I'm sure it was brilliant.

I NEVER heard an Iowa fan mutter such nonsense until about the late 1990s for some reason.

"For that reason would like to see the series against Iowa end."....Quoting uthaman.....I have a friend who has a Daughter....and a Son In Law who went to ISU and now has Four Grandchildren who are now attending Iowa State....And he would also like to see the Series Ended....At the point where the game was lost to Iowa he said...."My Whole F***ing Family is now going to be Pissed Off Because Iowa State LOST".....My response ...ME TOO!!

Go on...

Politics were involved. Not sure why it would be any different now.

I do agree though, there is no "law" currently that says the schools have to play.

The politicians didn't do anything of substance to restart the series. Basically, all they did was say, "Hey, we think the schools should play each other." That's it.

2)little bro would be accurate description if we want out.
Sorry if I ruffled any feathers. I just refuse to agree to dropping them unless we win the next 20 in a row.
You’re god damn right.

It was a lose/lose until CMC improved the team. There was no additional hype or national attention paid to the game until recently. Iowa State hadn’t been preseason ranked since the 70s. If Iowa won, The regional and national response was well they were supposed to. If they lost then, well Iowa isn’t going to be very good this year. Those are just the facts. So personally I like the game the last couple of meetings because both teams have been ranked.

In all my years in Florida I've never heard a UCF fan talk about UConn. USF and the war on I4 however.... ISU isnt suddenly replacing that bad blood.

Why did Iowa fans not call for the series to end before ISU started beating them in the late 90s? Why didn't you Fry lemmings think about it in the 80s? 2010?

I work with a bunch of Bucky fans and had one talk to me about this past week only because they have connections. People don't see the 'prestige' with Iowa football that you do because they don't give a **** about Iowa.

Go back to your circle jerk mocking Jack Trice on the ISR boards.
