Cy-Hawk Dual

With fans like you guys who needs enemies. It has been sicking reading all this crap about how we are going to get killed which is not going to happen but if it makes you feel better continue. With the lineup I expect ISU and IA to put out on Sunday it would not shock me if it comes down to the last match. Now go ahead and continue your pity party.
yes if Iowa puts out 4 backups, it could come down to the last match (which ISU doesn’t have a chance to win). That makes you happy?

Who says I’m happy with the status of ISU wrestling with Dresser? I’m not and I hope we don’t wait too long to make a change if this season doesn’t produce much better results than last years finish. At least I’m not on this board ******** about something that hasn’t happened. If we come out flat on Sunday and only win 2-3 matches then *****. At least give the guys a freaking chance to perform first.

I’d just like to point out Iowa is the #1 team in the country and is probably one of their best teams in recent memory. We could wrestle to our full potential and still end up with 1-2 wins depending who Iowa rolls out there. They have legitimate fall potential at 125, 141, 165 and Hwt. Iowa goes with the backups and we may keep it respectable.

Not sure how you would like this matchup discussed. ISU isn’t exactly stacked. You’re not considered a bigger fan because you hope harder than anyone else.

I just want to see us fight, not get ridden like a rented mule and make them earn it even if they win. Not give up garbage back points. Even if we get blown out, I won’t be putting much stock in it. It’s super early and we are quite young and many spots. The veteran guys I expect to look like veterans.

Totally agree with this.

Not sure why Iowa State waits until the day before to announce a wrestling meet, or publish the game notes, especially for a big one against Iowa--especially when that information was apparently available earlier in the week.

It was posted yesterday afternoon (Friday), which is TWO days before. Pretty standard.

Last year, they would usually be out on Wednesday before a weekend meet.

For Army/Cal Baptist, they were not posted until Sat--the day of the meet--unless they were out there late Friday.

They were posted around noon Friday. If you didn't see it until Saturday morning, that's on you.

I agree with this as well. This will be a very tough out, but a great learning experience and opportunity for some. Hoping to see some great competition.

I think you can put “stock” into a blowout. Iowa is much better than us. We already know that and will be reminded yet again in March. What it didn’t mean is that we aren’t making strides as a program because we clearly are. We just aren’t title contenders at this time. I also think in wrestling you can “fight” all you want but if your opponent is much better than you it often doesn’t show up.

I agree with this. If a fan's expectation this weekend is to beat the #1 team in the country, then you are setting yourself up for a disappointment even if Iowa needs to send out a bunch of backups.

The reality is that team is stacked with a lot of depth due to the extra Covid eligibility and the fact they are considered a top tier destination for wrestlers as they have been for decades. Would I love to see us win.. of course. Am I satisfied where we are currently.. not especially, but not disappointed either. Do I think we can do better with the coaching staff and resources currently allocated to the program? ... No, I think they are building a solid base for long term.

It's a helluva mountain to climb to get any program into the same tier as Iowa and Penn State right now and I believe the best we can hope for in the short to mid-term is to get us to that 2nd tier where Oklahoma State, Michigan, and Ohio State are at right now. Even that is going to be a challenge that won't happen soon, but I think given time, persistence and consistency, Dresser and Metcalf and company can get there and I plan to support them along the way.

Your last sentence is something the average fan never understands about wrestling. If you have inferior talent, getting super aggressive is a good recipe for getting your butt kicked.
