Not trying to be an instigator to Bears fans or the poster I'm quoting, but I don't see how y'all can be excited about this.

Yes, you gained, as I just quoted, a "better-than-average" QB. But for what you gave up - two firsts, a third, and the better (IMO) QB on your team, you got ripped off. That's three starters and a very serviceable backup, a huge price tag for a guy who probably isn't a franchise QB.
 
not too worried about it as a broncos fan. got the 12th and 18th pick. 12 will go to a DL for the new 3-4 system one of Orakpo, Maybin, Raji and Jackson will be there and will be drafted by the broncos. 18th will be used on a LB most likely... perhaps Malaluga or Cushing falls down to 18 or reach a little bit for a Sintim, English or Matthews

....regardless the broncos D is gonna get way better this year.

and dont forget about Chris Simms. he is a very talented young man at QB and if it werent for that injury would probably be starting somewhere
 
I see a lot of jealousy in this thread. The Bears gave up 2 first round picks, which aren't going to be very high, an average QB at best and a 3rd round pick. Angelo can't pick in the first round anyway, so now he can't screw up those picks. This is a great move anyway you slice it.
 
Once the blind anger subsides broncos fans, you'll see that this is a win-win for both sides. We don't have to deal with angelo blowing it in the first round for the next two years, you get a bunch of picks and a good back-up, and now we have a qb who is automatically the best qb we've had since jim mcmahon, and has the potential to be the best we've had since sid f'n luckman.

that is exactly how i see it, i just hope mcdaniels can judge defensive players better than shanny did
 
First of all I will admit to being a Vikings fan.

Just from my perspective the Bears have improved the QB position with a young, athletic QB who we now know has communication issues. The "he said, he said" between the Bronco's and Cutler was quite honestly embarrassing for both the organization and the player. My favorite was the Broncos: "we called him every day." Cutler: "no you didn't". Just wow. WR is a huge issues for the bears as well, Hester for all his speed and RAC ability is still a raw WR. He is not a true #1 WR just yet.

The Bears main problem over the next 2 season is what players will the put around him? They have a good RB in Forte, but the O-line in in flux. Williams only got 1/2 a season and with a bad back that will be an issue his entire career. Anyone who looks to the Pace signing as getting a solid starter should look again. He played what, 7 games the last 2 years. He is just another year older with more surgeries, a shadow of his former self.

Regardless of what you hope will happen with the bears I just don't see them making the playoffs next season. They have too many holes to fill and that many fewer draft picks to do it with. Its not like the Bears have ever backed the Brinks truck up to big name free agents so Bears fans might want to get used to the idea that this is the first step in a major re-building effort. The only problem with that is they gave away next years first round draft pick as well.

This seems like a pretty odd trade, and it'll be years before anyone knows who got the better end of it.

Like was said on the very end of the first page of this thread, the only thing that Cutler needs now is someone to throw the ball to. Now there's no way that Angelo could have predicted all this happening (Shanahan getting clipped, Cutler crying his way out of town) but I'll bet he's regretting not ponying up to keep Berrian.

I also don't know why the Bears would give up three draft picks over the next 2 years to get a guy with a career record of 17-20, who bitched and moaned when his feelings got hurt.

Cutler seems like the kind of guy who'll yell at the OC on the sidelines if they run it on 3rd and 5.
 
This is a great trade for the Bears. Many numerous first round misses in the past. He is a Pro Bowl QB with a cannon for an arm has played in the cold. Hopefully the Bears can sign Holt and draft a OL or WR in round two. This puts the heat on Lovie and if he fails this year Shannahan is available. Defense has fallen off past two years. One was a Superbowl hangover happens to every losing team. Hard to have a great defense when D is on the field 75% of game while watching Orton overthrow Fullbacks in the flat. Time will tell but Bears did not give up too much. They only have a three year window to win it all.
 
The Bears drafted Earl Bennett last year in the 2nd round; he is the all time leader wr in the SEC and he played at Vandy with Cutler. As a matter of fact, when Bennett went through his pro day workout two years ago, Cutler volunteered to come and throw passes for him. The two were very good friends at Vandy. Bennett admitted he struggled with the playbook last year, but that he now understands it inside and out. He will be an upgrade at WR.

Olsen at TE and Forte out of the backfield are other options. Look for the Bears to either sign a FA or draft another WR.

Pace will be moved to guard; he is not as quick as he used to be but he is still powerful and effective.
 
I'm surprised at all the venom sent Orton's way, considering he's a SE Polk product! I thought Orton did a decent job for the Bears last season...

I'm certainly not a NFL GM, but at first glance it has the appearance the Broncos fleeced the Bears. A starting caliber QB, two firsts and a third for a mercurial QB with a career record of 17-20 in a weak division. While I'd rather have seen Cutler in Detroit, this trade really doesn't concern me that much as a Packer fan. It will make the season opener much more interesting...
