My wife and I just bought a house and Home Depot wants to charge almost 300 per blind for some oddly sized windows. Is there a good place to get them online?

We've gotten all of our wood blinds from Wood, Blind and Shutter Factory (wbsfactory.com) and I think they were of better quality and lower priced than any of the local stores we looked at.

We first ordered the 2 inch wood blinds from them about 8 years ago and several times since and all of our blinds are still like new. If you are getting a wood color I would order the samples first so you can get an actual idea of how it would look in your house.

edit: Wow, already 2 responses about window blinds at 6am on a Sunday.

We did custom throughout our house and used blindschalet.com. They were great to work with, provided a great product, and were fast and VERY affordable.

We are in the process of getting rid of the cheap Bali mini blinds, but I had no idea how much window covering could cost.

When I moved into my house about 10 years ago, my realtor hooked me up with a local guy who installed blinds from Royal Windows. I got some faux and real wood blinds from them. They have held great over the years, and the material and construction quality is far superior to the ones at Home Depot.

For example, we've got some 5x3 windows. The Royal Windows blind has strong frame and only requires brackets on the ends. The 5-ft wide blind from Home Depot (which we recently installed on a smaller window that we had enlarged) requires two additional intermediate brackets to prevent bowing. Also, the ropes and other parts on the RW blinds are also much better quality. We were in a hurry and just wanted to get a blind quickly, but I wish I would have bought an RW blind.

I really don't know how the cost compares between the two because I haven't bought a RW blind recently.

Royal Windows, Inc wood.
Royal Windows, Inc faux.

Lowes does have the 2" faux wood blinds that they will cut to width at the store. Don't go to the ordering area, they are in the aisle. I don't think we spent more than $50 per blind. These are obviously a lower quality than what you'd order, but when trying to do an entire house it was a cheap way to get it done.

We bought all ours at justblinds.com. There are always coupons online and they are very affordable. Extremely easy to install. Have used them multiple times. Anything from normal wood blinds to blackout blinds

measure twice and hook up with an online company and submit your order. (try this on a couple window applications first to see if you like it)

We saved around 60-65% .

We have also had a designer from a local dept store come out and measure a few and paid much more---which is nice and convenient and guaranteed

The only downside to online--usually no refunds if YOU screw up your measurements

When we moved into our house about a year ago, we got quotes from home depot too. We also looked at selectblinds.com and it was about a quarter to half the price of home depot (I think home depot wanted about $400 for the cellular shade and we found it for around $100). We ended up going with select blinds. They do custom sizes and are fairly easy to install. We were also able to order a bunch of free samples, and I think we got a buy 3 get 1 free coupon just for ordering samples. Definitely recommend them!
