Custer not redshirting next year. If we get RV we'll just have a glut of guards and Custer probably wont play a ton but we still need a backup PG. In that case RV may play at PG some but we won't count on him to be the backup PG. He'll be a freshman too, after all.
Well, Custer tweeted a picture of he and Jacy just last week. Unless Jacy went through a growth spurt after playing for ISU, I would say they are about the same size. Also, after seeing Jacy...damn I feel old.
I'm not saying he won't play, but we have a couple of other ball handlers and guys we can run the offense through. I hope he's good enough to get minutes next year, but just because he's the only other pg on the team next year doesn't mean he'll be on the court when Morris isn't.
Did you watch the game? I watched starting in the second quarter and Tyus was on him a lot.
I did, beginning in the 2nd quarter as well. Jones barely defended Custer, especially in the second half. Custer did spend a good amount of time on Jones though.
He does look a lot like Hinrich, except Hinrich was 4" taller. He kind of reminds me of KU's point now, Tharpe. Similar size and a really good shooter.
This isn't a knock...but I'm getting a mike gessell vibe from him more than i get a hollloway or hinrich feel. Their high school tapes are very similar and they are similar ranks via yahoo.
Having said that...it's impossible to give a fair assessment from an edited YouTube tape that only features his good plays.

I disagree with Gessell comparison, Mike is more of a SG skills wise but a PG's body. He's forced to play PG due to Marble and Iowa lack of a true PG. Remember Marcus Paige was the PG on the Iowa AAU team in HS he didn't get the reps initiating the offense against top competition like CC has. There is a reason Ulis was the priority recruit for Fran last year.
I've watched a few of Custer's games he is a true PG. Comfortable with initiating the offense and keeping defenses honest with the outside shot. He's 6'1 with long arms too, which help with passing and collecting steals.

I feel like Custer is a very similar player to Morris.
neither will wow you physically, as they are both about 6'-1" and "wiry". Both seem to be very heady players, solid with the ball, get their teams involved/ play within themselves... can score enough to keep their defenders honest.
note that I have watched at least two complete games of both in HS.

I get the feeling like if you put these two on the floor together, they're going to absolutely give teams fits. To have two facilitators on the floor like that at the same time (that can both fill it up if needed) will give the team so many options on the offensive end.
