Custer's Game

is they're any former or current Clone whose style you could compare?

I guess the natural comparison would be Jacy Holloway. Kansas kids similar in size. Jacy led the Big 12 in assists one year and of course has the last Big 8 title. He was a key piece of those Floyd teams. I'd say Custer has a higher ceiling and looks to be a better shooter. He has a nice stroke and gets his shot off fast. Plays within the offense very well even though he's the "star".

Always thought he was a 3-star, but went to rivals and saw he is now a 4, and is the 90th player nationally. Don't know if this is a recent rise, I haven't looked since he signed.

he's a heady, scrappy player. a real gym rat. great fundamentals, knock down shooter, and a high basketball IQ. did I forget anything?

He plays with a bit of cockiness without being cocky... if that makes sense. There's a flair to his game that surprised me. I now know why Fred, Lon Kruger, Travis Ford, and Frank Martin... all great guard recruiters... were hot on his trail.

Dang. if he doesn't redshirt we'll have a ton of guards next year.

He can be a prototype point guard... run offense, distribute, take care of the basketball against pressure, and score when he needs to. Morris is the only other player on the roster next year that fills all those needs. He's not redshirting next year.

what if we get RV?

Morris and Custer will be feeding him coming off those screens and raining 3's. I can see Custer getting 10-12 minutes next year. He can be a classic point guard or SG from what I've seen. That makes his game a little more unique than some of the others. I'm not saying better... but more diverse.

His highlights rem8nd me of grant gibbs. Thats not a knock. Gibbs is a really good guard.

I had a conflict and I couldn't make it to the game. When I saw him last year, I would definitely call him a combo guard who is as much a slasher as shooter. He's adept at breaking down his man and driving to the hoop to finish or dish. He's got a mean little cross over and hesitation move in his arsenal that he uses to abuse the HS kids with. He can obviously really shoot the ball.

Calling him like Jacy Holloway doesn't capture it - he's bigger than Jacy by quite a bit already and is better athlete. His game is more like that doosh at Ohio State, Aaron Craft. For the old timers, I see some Mike Born in him, so imagine that. He's definitely confident, and I think is going to be a player that opponents' fans just hate. I think he'll develop into an all around lead guard for us in time. My sense is that it will take him a year to adjust to playing against guys who are taller and quicker than the high schoolers he plays, but he's going to be a nice classic point guard.

I walked right by him tonight when they were warming up. I'm a hair over 6'. He might be an inch taller than me at most. Holloway was in that range. Custer has filled out some since I saw him at the Big 12 Tournament last spring. Like I said, I think he has more upside than Holloway. Definitely a better shooter. I do think people forget how good Jacy was his last couple years under Floyd.

He's got way more offense than Craft and more handle and diversity to his offense than Born. He actually reminds me a lot of Monte and Mike Gesell.
