Curtis Jones

Jones wasn't shooting well early on but I watched about every highlight I could of the newcomers over the summer, he was getting his kind of shots, they just weren't falling. He didn't force things and just kept letting the game come to and now they've started falling. He knows how to get to the spots he shoots well from, when they are good, they look automatic. He struggled a bit but never changed his approach really happy things started going his way.

My favorite EPL club has a young player Curtis Jones who is coming into his own and gaining confidence by the day as well.

When I shout "CuJo!" my fiancé isn't sure if I'm watching ISU game or LFC match.

He has another year of eligibility if he wants it, right?
That's the thing that is most exciting to me. Our guards are playing well this year, but I believe they can all be back next year. Enjoying this season for sure, but it's comforting to know we're set up well for the future

All our guards are schedule to be back next year, which is very exciting. Feels like it's been awhile since that's happened. Losing BRE and Hasan will suck...didn't see myself saying that in October.

I wasn't expecting him to be so capable at executing the offense with Tamin out, that's a welcome surprise.

We've got a good backcourt!
He was the main PG at Indian Hills. Kid knows how to run a team.

Yeah, a lot will depend on progression in the front court. Rock, Watson, hopefully Milan, maybe Fish, maybe Biliew, maybe a transfer. There's potential there.

Jones is shooting 34% on 5.2 three-point attempts per game, that's about right on with what you might expect from him (36% on 6.7 attempts last year against weaker teams). If you exclude the debacle in Florida he's shooting 38%.

I’ve been high on Curtis all season because of the good things he has done all year: defense and not turning the ball over. I do think he was really hesitant to shoot the first 4 non-con games and Lipsey being out made him say “I have to shoot it, now”. Good things happen when he and Gilbert don’t hesitate to shoot the 3. Even if they miss, good things still happen, as we get an offensive rebound on about 1 out of 3 misses and it keeps the D from packing it in.
Your last point here is really important.

Just the threat of being able to shoot alters the defensive scheme. Is it better if they go in? Of course. But just having shooters out there that you have to respect is big. It’s why Lipseys improvement from 3 has been critical for us this year too. Both Raftery and Jay Wright mentioned it yesterday.

As further evidence, listen to Self post game when asked about his defensive scheme and scouting report. Basically said they put Dickinson on King and sagged off him because he was not shooting well. After this performance other coaches may reconsider.

This is how basketball works and why I love watching it. It’s such a chess match.

Thank you, and my apologies for earlier doubting. We don't win this one without his timely 3s and a few other plays that don't make the stat sheet.

Keep up this pace of growth please!
He’s getting more solid by the day, adjusting to the difference in the level of play

My guess is at least one big man transfer. Our guards are pretty set with two freshman also coming in. We need a capable big man. Rock will be solid is my guess but a freshman.

This is the deepest front court I can ever remember. I love this team's maturity, experience, nastiness, and ability to score inside and out. Legit Final 4 possibilities IMO.

Really wish we had Ward for another year but we should have the most year over year continuity since the Niang days as a team.

Agreed. I have a feeling that we have a good handful of guys we're hoping enter the portal. The fact of the matter is that freshman bigs just aren't going to be ready for the B12. Blum isn't joking about the treasure (transfer) chest needed for the Bigs.

Lipsey being out vs. TCU was the best thing that ever happened to us. Gilbert and Jones were not good the first few Big 12 games. They seemed content to just defer to Lipsey and relied on him to create almost everything offensively. Then they were forced to be more aggressive against TCU and found their confidence. They've both been completely different players since that game.
Ahem, thx BYU, I guess.
