Is anyone else as tired of him missing game impacting/game winning kicks?

I gave him a pass for the Missouri game 2 years ago because he was a freshman. I was a little leary after the KU game last year. But to miss a chip shot AGAIN at home against Missouri is a pattern. The guy can kick but he just isn't a clutch kicker.

If he makes that 28 yard straight down the middle FG on Saturday, we go up 8 points which would have been huge. I know we ended up winning but it's the principle of the matter...

He is a walk on kicker. IMO, a field goal kicker is one of the biggest assets you can have on a team other then a QB. Why McCarney refused to ever recruit kickers is something I will never figure out!

We have not had a good kicker since Ty Stuart. Well the Punter who kick his senior year too...Carl Gomez?

No ability to make the pressure kick so far, none.

Very discouraging for a kid that pretty accurate otherwise.

Maybe if he did, he would still have his job. And we would have at least 1 North title and possibly 2.

Season is over and so are my worries. Whoever they bring in will sweep up the cobwebs and clean under the rugs. I trust in them. I will start to care more when football season sneaks back in again.

Didn't he also miss one in OT against Mizzou last year!

We have 2 scholarship place kickers in Josh Griebahn and Chris Mahoski. I thought Mahoski was rated highly coming from Bettendorf 2 years ago. Seem to remember that he had a fairly serious leg injury playing soccer or something. Don't think I saw him play at all this tear.

I think it was painfully clear this weekend that Shaggy is not a clutch kicker when the kick matters. If it's a non-pressure kick in the game he's usually money but if the game is on the line and making the kick would help ISU's chances he has yet to hit a meaningful kick in 3 years now.

I asked Alford and Ash at the 3 Bag recruiting party this spring about why we didn't recruit any kickers in last year's class. Alford rolled his eyes and turned his back, Ash kinda smiled and gave me some BS answer about how we know Shaggy has missed some big kicks but he'd be fine this year. Remember, these are 2 guys that did a lot of our recruiting and is partially to blame why we are in the mess we are in now. Just goes to show their gamble did not pay off once again.

What I don't understand is why we don't just go after the kicker at Ankeny when we can? Look at how many have kicked in big programs or are now in the NFL. Any decent kicking recruit should be on ISU's radar as the job could pretty much be garunteed theirs if they came to ISU.

This is why I am teaching both of my twin boys to kick! One will be the punter, one will be the FG kicker...

I am gonna need a bigger backyard.

Watch the replay again, a Mizzou player got his hand on it. Not Culby's fault. Probably not the most intelligent thing to rip on the most accurate kicker in ISU history. The more important question is why was he even kicking in the first place? Give the ball to Koch and you don't have to worry about it.

Well I was at the game so I didn't have the luxury to see the replay. It's a glorified extra point! :angry6wn: He may be the most accurate kicker in ISU history but he cost us at least 1 North title, if not 2. He is a good kicker, I am not disputing that. He just can't make a field goal when it counts.

And it's ok that he missed because he shouldn't have been kicking in the first place??? Give me a break...:rolleyes5cz:
