MLB: Cubs problems

There is one major problem with Jake Fox, he doesn't play any position well. In fact he is an awful fielder. He would be perfect as a DH in the American League.

Bruce Levine just said DLee probably has about a month to turn it around before Hoffpauir starts taking starts away.

I would love to trade Hoffpauir while his stock is at an all time high. There is a reason why he is a career minor leaguer. He had his breakout year at the age of 27. Hoffpauir is good at what he is doing now. Filling in for RF and 1B when Bradley and Lee are hurt. When he starts for a long period of time, people will realize why he doesn't start.

I agree with you except for your first sentence. Why would you want to trade him if he's good in his role, D Lee may be needing quite a few off days if he continues to struggle, and Bradley is a good bet to be injured a few more times this year?

True, I'm just saying that I don't think he should be starting everyday. I think the love fest for him is funny. Like I said, he is good in the role he is playing right now but in no way should he start everyday. Thats just my opinion.

Maybe the Cubs should get Felix Pecan Pie back!

I wish they would have traded him before he proved that he couldn't handle the majors. He had much more value a few years ago and we could have gotten some use out of him then. They just dumped him this year for nothing much.

it won't let me quote for some reason but to Cycopath: Cubs are perfectly fine without pinch run Pie. If you haven't seen yet, he's not exactly lighting the world on fire in Baltimore either...

I agree with you, but if D Lee doesn't really pick it up, you almost have to let him start. Not because you think he can hit .300 and 30 homers, but because he can't do as bad as Lee has been. His lack of experience may be a benefit, at least for a bit, as there isn't much of a scouting report out on him yet.

For the Cubs, I think it's safe to say that their biggest concern right now is the bullpen. Kevin Gregg's failures doesn't surprise me because he isn't a good pitcher. Neither is Neal Cotts outside of 2005.. Marmol's numbers seem to be a bit inflated from a bad outing or two, I don't think there's any reason to worry about him. I thought Heilman would be better. Not a great reliever, but a mediocre one who could come in and get a big strikeout or two in a big spot. So far, not so much.

They picked up a Pie clone in Gathright, anyway.

Bases loaded no outs and the Cubs don't hit the ball out of the infield and needed a wild pitch to score a run:sad::notworthy:

To b honest i would like to see the cubs try and trade DLee, try to get something for him when he still has some sort of value! I love DLee as much as most cubs fans but I'm really thinking its time for him to go! I would also like to see us maybe go after a Huston Street, or some other young closer. Also i am now wishing the Cubs could of put together a deal for Grienke this off season, like it was rumored...but i guess one can wish...Hopefully the Cubs will pick it up soon!!

First off, I hate the Cubs, I have tons of friends that are die hard Cub fans. Like I tell them, THERE IS A 162 GAMES!!! They've only played 22 to 25 so far!!! Talk about it in late August and early September when it matters! Look at the Mets that last few years! It only matters in August and September!

White Soxs fans should know look at what the Twins have done to that divison after April.

People really need to stop thinking that Lee is ever going to repeat his 2005 season. That was a career year and it will never happen again. If he can hit 20-25 homers a year and drive in 90-100 runs while batting .280 I will be happy. People just expect too much of him. He is getting older and players usually lose power once they get into their 30's.

Statistical anomalies don't happen in baseball. Come on and get it together, champ!

Anyone else think that if the bullpen starts throwing strikes that the Cubs offense will come around? It seems to me in what little I get to see of them is that everyone is trying to do so much knowing that the bullpen has struggled so bad. So, instead of trying to just get hits they are trying to hit homers and end up striking out or in the case of yesterday not making enough contact to get the ball out of the infield with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs.

well, maybe DLee was reading this thread today, huh? The grand salami not so bad..

The game today (or what I saw of it) wasnt so bad. Except marmol who seemed to be throwing to the opposite side of the plate that soto was signaling to.

I think that the Cubs will be fine if they can stay healthy. Zambrano getting hurt yesterday doesn't help things.

They will find plenty of offense. They just need to get consistency out of their bullpen. I never thought that Gregg was the answer for a closer and Marmol hasn't seemed comfortable yet this year.

With decent relief pitching the Cubs will have no trouble winning the NL Central.
