Cubs done?

Look for Marshall to be starting next season, kid is a stud. Or maybe we could use one of these guys as a great set-up man...only time will tell.

I think he'll start in Iowa this coming season. He was brought up from AA without ever having a full season under his belt. With Hill and Lilly 2 lefties already in the rotation and Cotts, Ohman, and Eyre the lefties in the bullpen I think he'd have to have one heck of a spring training to get that #5 spot to justify 3 LHP in the rotation.

I think a season in Iowa would do good for building up stamina and working on his pitches some more. At times he looked like a promising young starter but he obviously was not ready enough to be thrown to the wolves so soon.

The projected position is in right field which would move lefty Jacque Jones to center. Jones has played in center with his time with the Twins, so this wouldn't be anything new to him.

Uhh...no. I've owned season tickets to the Twins for a long time, and i can tell you categorically that Jacque Jones has not played any center field for the Twins, excepting maybe a scrub detail once or twice. He played Left field before Shannon Stewart arrived, but Torii Hunter and Lew Ford have done all the center fielding for the Twins.

Yeah, at first glance Baldelli would seem to be a decent pick up. However, I went and looked at his stats the other day and he strikes out a TON and doesn't walk very much (not sure on exact numbers but a bad on-base percentage). That's the kind of player that has resulted in the Cubs having bad seasons the last few years. I guess you could say he's still young and will improve but I don't know how great he'd be for what the Cubs would have to give up.

Being a die-hard twins fan, I would have agreed with you. Unfortunately I looked it up (baseball-reference.com) and he has played quite a bit of center, especially '99 and '00. Since then it's only been scrub duty though.

1999 CF 82 games
2000 CF 63 games
2001 CF 2 games
2004 CF 2 games
2005 CF 10 games

I don't blame you for not remembering though, those were dark times for Twins fans that we'd all like to forget anyway. It's not often I pine for the days of "All-Star Ron Coomer".

Cotts will likely be decent this year until he is figured out to be a one pitch pitcher, and people will sit on his straight fastball because he no longer has the dynamite curve he had in AA. Once he was put into the pen, he got by at first, but his fastball just wasn't as sneaky anymore.

The offseason is not over, and even if it was the fun never ends. Players like Cedeno, Jones, and a number of pitchers will soon be trade bait before the all-star break. I do think the Cubs will end up keeping Jones around till the end of the offseason and into the regular season. One area they have been trying to get are more left handed batters, and to trade one away doesn't make sense. His defense might be lacking, but you cannot discredit the offense he provided. He will make a great 5,6,or 7 hitter for the club.

Lilly and Marquis are already definites for starting even if Miller and Prior come back. Like Hendry stated before, he is trying not to rely on the young guns or the possible comeback players to fill roster spots. If all do well (Miller, Prior, Marshall, Guzman, Marmol, O'Reily, Mateo, etc..), then we have a sufficient amount of good starters that will come in handy come trading time.

Big Z went 16-7 this year(last year), and he is still considered one of the best pitchers in baseball. Sometimes its not about the record, its about what your bring to the team. Hopefully Marquis will have something that the Cubs can feed off of and become successful while he is on the mound.

what worries me is Rothschield-67% of his pitchers since he came to the Cubs have had an injury where they missed a few games or have been on the DL.

Marquis underachieved in 2004. He was 15-7 for an outstanding, 100 plus win team. I could have one 15 games for that team.

Thanks for the input, too bad that was a ******** statement. Marquis had an era of 3.71 that season. I don't consider that underachieving by any means. He also had a career high in K's with a 138.

Lets throw this name out there for centerfield --- Felix Pie

His baserunning imporved toward the end of the season, but his batting average had dropped. Again it comes down to consistency which these players just dont have yet. Give him another year and you should see him at least be a bench player. And even this Hendry doesn't want to do. Thats why he is still at AAA, they need Pie to be an everyday player, and perform as one.

"And also there is no truth to the Cubs looking to swap Jones nor did he ask to be traded."

WHAT?? He flat out did everything but say he wanted to be traded in his interview with ESPN. I'm not sure where you get your sources but everyone is saying he wants to be traded and the cubs want to trade him.

acrozier do you have to be such an *** hole to everyone who comments on here, damn. By the way here is where I got my source:

I heard that Jacque Jones has formally requested a trade. Is there any truth to that?

No, he did not.

Not ready yet....

And you probably thought that ronny Cedeno wasn't ready either, You probably ws hurt the Perez left and Cedeno went in. If you are from Des Moines you would see the speed, agility that this player has. He has power but due to an achili injury in 2006 he had a short season. He still produced and I expect him to be in the majors playing. watch him in des Moines and you will see a speedy, fielding, hitting fool. He is bettter then Cory ever was, and even his brother Eric will be. Look at what he is doing in the winter leagues.

I love Cubs fans they are so pathetic. Cubs stands for completey useless before September. 98 years of saying wait til next year heres too another 98.

Seriously you aren't saying that Cedano is good right? Perez sucked, I hated him and I'm glad he is gone. Cedano is not much better though. Yeh he ripped up AAA but he couldn't get it done in the bigs.

I have seen Pie play. He is quite an athlete but right now he strikes out way too much (126 in 2006) and doesn't take enough walks (46). He is also needs to work on is base stealing. His timing is subpar when he gets his jump on a pitcher. He only had 17 in AAA, this is for a guy that is lightning fast!!

HE IS NOT READY!

And for the other poster with the link from cubs.com. Look at the writer, Carrie Muskrat. She is a freaking idiot. She is the one that said the cubs may be interested in Alex Rodriguez and how the cubs were looking to trade Michael Barrett at the beginning of the offseason. Know your sources.

Cedano 2006 stats:

BA- .245
OBP- .271
K's- 109
AB's-534

He struck out 1 out of every 5 AB's. That is terrible for a contact hitter.

But you are right, what a stud with a .270 OBP. He fit right in with Dusty Baker.

Oh yeh, he also made 25 errors.
