Criner / Walden-like

Jantz is adjusting to Big 12 defenses. He looked so good against Iowa because they run a base defense throughout the whole game and only rush four. Blitzing defenses are an issue at this point, and other teams know that. He will get better, but without any time, it would be almost impossible to look good against the blitz.

A blitzing defense leaves man-coverage, so if he can adjust quickly, our receivers should be able to make some plays. I feel an upset brewing. Paul Rhoads' teams are the most dangerous at times like these.

CPR is a great guy, I’m glad he is the coach, but unless he is able to dramatically improve recruitment and get more talented players and more player depth his tenure at ISU will be as painful and frustrating as Criner and Walden.

How about this: we trust that CPR and the gang will do everything they can to make the necessary adjustments and get our team prepared for a homecoming matchup with aTm. The score always starts 0-0, giving us just as equal of a chance to win the game as the other team.

Sure, watching aTm manhandle Baylor had me a little worried about what's ahead for next week, but again, I trust that everything will be done to ensure this team comes out fully prepared and plays up to their abilities. CLONE4LIFE!

One way to beat blitzes is to get rid of the ball quickly and accurately. Because of the man coverage that comes with blitzing you can beat it with quick accurate passing. Neither skill appear to be strengths for our current starting QB. His mechanics are not good and until he gets coaching he will keep floating the ball.
No doubt we need better protection schemes but the qb can help by hitting the quick slant more consistently.

I actually think that Jimmie Dean Walden's defenses were better than the last 3 weeks......


btw it would help to junk the spread offense and go to the six and O offense that billy bob snyder runs at kstate....
 
I think the coaches are doing a great job recruiting the specialty positions. Our biggest problem and the difference between Blowouts and close games, imo, is our lines on both sides of the Ball. Jantz is always running for his life, a lot of times, before he even gets his first read. We have trouble getting 2 or 3 yards on running plays. We have some decent receivers and White is a pretty good back. But if no one is blocking, it doesn't matter at all. For as little blocking as we get, we actually look pretty good.

Defensively it looks even worse. Our guys are getting pushed off the ball on every snap allowing their guys to get to the second level immediately and block our line backers free and clear. On passing, we create absolutely no pressure at all. A lot of what I see says our Defensive backfield is probably one of the best we've ever had at ISU. But our line is so inept, our backs just do not have a chance playing chase all day on every play. We need to find a way to get some bodies up front that can at least plug holes. If we don't have pass rushers, fine, then get some dudes taht can at least disrupt the running game. Right now teams are doing waht they wish to us, at will and it all starts up front.
 
Jim Walden was 6-5 overall and 4-3 in conference in his third year at ISU. I think most people here would be thrilled if ISU ended up in CPR's third year with more wins than losses both overall and in conference.
 
I agree with the assessment of the line play.

The O Line clearly needs help from a scheme standpoint. Our situation is not unlike the Chicago Bears last night they changed schemes and ran 7 man max protect almost all night. Miracles of miracles when Cutler isn't on his back he is a pretty decent QB. I think Herman needs the same kind of talking to that it appears Martz got.

It won't fix our QB's long windup up but maybe if he is a little more comfortable he can set his feet.
 
Herman is the punching bag, but Bleil deserves some of it too.

Jim Walden gets a bad rap. He had some of the worst D1 facilities in the country to work with. We still aren't great in that arena relative to the top 25 programs, but we are leaps and bounds ahead of that era.

People most remember his last couple of years, which were very bad, but more or less Mac started and ended up that way, and there is certainly no guarantee that CPR won't end up that way either. Especially if we keep 9 conference games.

Mac had the good fortune of having a few years in a weak B12, with 8 conference games out of a total of 12. CPR still has 12 games, but 9 of them are in-conference.

This year for example, we play in maybe the strongest league in the US, and play 5 conference road games. Our 4 conference home games feature Okie State (BCS #4), A&M and UT. That is brutal.

I was called out by another poster for suggesting this. (quick slants)
I agree with your assesment, you can really burn a team that blitzes by doing this like this thus they do not blitz as much.
 
We will defeat Kansas. Perhaps another upset.

Man, the Big 12 is awesome this year. No wonder some of these teams want to go to the SEC or Big Ten!
 
Walden played for a tie in a year when we hadn't won a single game. Just sayin...
 
Big 10:
We would have probably been 4-0 Non Conference.

I would like to think we could find 3 wins between
Iowa, Indiana, Minny, Purdue, NW, Illinois, Penn St

Of course it depends on which teams you draw that year.
Either way we are not good.
