Too much math. File under: Dumplings or whatever.
Not too much math. This is a very, very important topic of discussion that you raised and I want complete information before giving a final answer.

Good dumplings are the best. Last year in NYC I was prepared to eat at all these interesting places but I found myself just going to a number of different dumpling places. vanessa's dumpling house and Xi'An famous foods. Damn

Did you do a walking tour?

No, Xi'An was by our subway stop in Brooklyn and searched out the other one. Vanessa's is a soup nazi type place where you better know what you're ordering. It was one of the best foodie trips we've taken and all reasonable priced.

I was curious. We went last summer (we did not do one) and several people I know had previously done walking tours and they all raved about the quality and price of the dumplings.

We talking crab rangoons with actual crab in them, or the fried cream cheese balls that pass for rangoons most places? I like both, but I'd murder someone for the ones with real crab. The cream cheese ones are like the imitation crab salad you get at Subway - tasty, but not in the same league as real crab meat.

I think I've been mostly exposed to fried cream cheese balls (bleh), but people seem to love those as well.

OK. There is a stand at the DSM famers market called Mao's egg rolls.
I actually get two springs rolls to go from him and eat them later in the afternoon. They could with a peanut type mellow sweet and sour sauce. Effing phenomenal, seriously.

Also, there is a dumpling place across the street from the Iowa Tap Room. Pretty good stuff.

The crab rangoon at Thai Flavors off of 14th St DM are the bomb! Egg rolls at A Dong are awesome!

Every time I leave the Tap Room I tell myself that I should try that dumpling place. And I never remember next time I'm in the area.

Wife prefers egg rolls. I prefer crab rangoons because I’m fat. Fortune Garden in Grimes leaves us both very satisfied.

Love me some Fortune Garden but it's a rarity if I am able to order there. Apparently it is a popular place because I've stopped in there before just a few minutes after 11am on a weekday before and was told it was a 30 minute wait for carryout which is crazy considering they open up at 11. Must have a bunch of call in orders that come in right away? I've seen on Facebook this fall that they haven't been open some days too because the owner has had health issues. I'd love to eat there more but just need to call in an order in advance I guess because I have never had much luck just walking in and ordering without waiting a long time. The 1 time I did call in my food still wasn't ready for about another 15 minutes past the time they quoted me on the phone.

Prefer egg rolls, dipped in sweet/sour (or swee-sow as they call it) sauce.
Starting to notice places leaving the crab out of their rangoon appetizers. So, as someone said, fried puff pastry with sour cream. Ugh!
