CPR is the man

Can we keep this thread about the nice gesture Paul made for this football camper? I apologize for any contributions I may have made in derailing this generally good thread.

If being a class act won football games we'd be in good shape! People aren't questioning CPR's character, they're questioning his results.

If you're expecting a mechanic to turn an 88 Ford Taurus into a new Ford GT40 you're mechanic isn't the problem.

Unless you can fix lack of $$$, lack of historical success, lack of talent base, and Iowa's lack of appealing weather (to recruits from S states...you know...where all the talent resides) then I think you have to have a realistic expectation for ISU's FB program.

I love CPR as a person. I think he's a capable FB coach. The idea that you're going to find anyone better to come AND STAY at ISU is about as asinine as the guy that drops off the Taurus expecting to come back and pay $2000 and get a GT40 back.

That may butthurt some of you...but you need to be realistic about expectations.

Let's shoot for a mid-90's Ford Escort and then see where we're at.

Cool story. Guess we should just sign him up for a life time contract since this is as good as it gets. Clearly anyone who thinks differently is an idiot.

I'm not saying any of that. I'm saying you're not going to hire any big time names. You're going to get another coach who's a top P5 assistant...maybe a lower level D1 HC? And when you're done you're still going to have the same issues we have today to overcome.

Let's just say, for argument sake we hire the second coming of Nick Saban...this guy could coach 30 2*'s to a BCS bowl. How long do you expect him to last in Ames? I'm guessing every major D1 opening in America is going to come after him with bags of cash. Programs with better history, better recruiting territory, better facilities...they're going to offer money we couldn't...and he'll be gone.

You realize that CPR was hot enough after his first couple years to get a lot of other opportunities...right? He's only still in Ames because of his love for Iowa and ISU.

I really want Rhoads to win, not just because I want to see my Cyclones win, but because I like Rhoads. I've had multiple friends play for him at ISU and they all loved him and it seems like CPR truly loves being here and wants to bring Cyclone fans wins. I really hope he is able to get the ship turned around. Maybe we'll get some momentum early in the season and boost player confidence and morale.

Great story. Good things happen to good people....ready for a bounce back year. Coach is a man of great character.

CPR is a great human being. I don't think I've ever wanted someone at Iowa State to win more than him. Unfortunately guys with little to no integrity like Gene Chizik and Pete Carroll seem to be the ones that find success when it comes to winning college football games.

Nice thread derailment, though not surprising.

OP - awesome story, hope you're recovering well. I met coach at a golf tournament. Voluntarily sat at our table and hoisted a few with us (not big donors, mind you). Great guy, and I'd be pulling for any coach of ISU, but I want it just a little more for him.
