CPR is the man

I wanted McCarney to succeed too. I wish he wouldn't go into prevent defense with a 3 point lead with 10 minutes left in the third quarter.

If only being a really nice guy was all it took to be good football coach. Cool story, and I hope CPR turns it around and is a successful coach at ISU until he retires. That being said, I'll believe it when I see it.

Wait, Paul is handing out bags of stuff to high schoolers? I guess we can expect to be the scapegoat for UNC's violations.

I really expected this thread to be a sunshine pumping thread that devolved into a measuring contest. So many threads do here, but this is way, way better (not counting your injuries of course).

Rhoads is fantastic for ISU. Its a shame some fans treat him like the son of Satan because he didn't win enough games the last 2 years.

CPR is a class act. Agree that some posters on here are complete A-Holes.

The problem is, he can be the greatest guy on Earth. But, the reality is, if you don't win games you aren't fantastic for your football program you only make it harder for the program to have success. Can he win games? Yes he can, he has proven it, whether they were with his recruits or not. Now can he recruit? I certainly believe that they have increased the talent level that they are targeting each year. The problem appears to be closing the deal. I would put that on the asst. coaches as much, or more than I would the head coach. Maybe I'm wrong because I am no expert but this is how I see it.

We have had some setbacks the last couple of years. Kicking off 2 starting DT's last spring hurt us. But it was necessary. Add in injuries, along with recruiting misses due to homesickness of all things. Anyway, many of our weakest areas seem to have been addressed and hopefully we will see better results on the field and on the scoreboard. But constant derogatory and snarky comments are not needed. And show a complete lack of class by those posting them. They are A-Holes.

Meh, its a message board. I agree that this particular thread about "Paul being the Man" is the wrong place for it, since he truly is a really good guy, but criticism is fine in other threads regarding his job performance the last two seasons.

If being a class act won football games we'd be in good shape! People aren't questioning CPR's character, they're questioning his results.

Today in the semifinals of the high school ISU 7v7 tournament, I collided with a teammate and opposing player and was knocked unconscious for a short time. (have a concussion and a fat lip, but fine other than that)
When I woke up and was being lifted to the ambulance, CPR was there personally to make sure I was ok and give me a high-five.
After I arrived at the hospital, an employee comes in and says that "a Paul Rhoads is here to talk to you." He then proceeds to come in, give me a bag of stuff, tell me about how my team ended up winning, and talk to my Dad and me for a good 15-20 minutes.
Say what you want about the guy, but this was a total stand-up move. He didn't need to come and do this, but he did, and it meant a ton to me, my dad, and my coach.
Count me as a believer.

I dont think there a Cyclone fan that wants nothing more than for Paul Rhoads to be successful at Iowa State. He is a true stand-up man. My family's cabin in Clear Lake is only a few miles from Rhoads' and he is always saying hi and is very open to talking whenever I see him up there. Very personable person.

I agree with this.
