We have some old VHS tapes with a lot of wonderful and sentimental family memories on them. I just popped them in the ol' VHS player (which I'm not sure actually works as it's been many years) and the tapes seem to be horribly worn and grainey / worse. So, I'm wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a professional to see regarding restoration and conversion of VHS to digital media in the central Iowa area?
I'm hesitant to send them off to one of those internet companies that sends you a box to ship the tapes back to them. We did that a few years ago for my parents without great results. Plus, these tapes are so worn in some parts the video seems to be lost and I'd like to talk with an expert about the possibility to "restore" footage.
