For those who were at the ku game last year did you watch the mini dunk contest he was putting on. He was doing some crazy dunks. 360's with ease. Ally ooping himself off the bounce. If Custer is that athletic I will be extremely pleasantly surprised.

I don't think they are saying that they will finish 3rd or 4th. I'm thinking they mean if they had to take Kansas or the field to win it all, take the field. Texas, OU, or us would have a good shot to knock them off, doesn't mean KU would finish 3rd/4th. That's my take on it anyways. This would probably be as strong of year to take the field as any.
After watching KU's exhibition game I think he made a good decision. My guess is Graham & Mason were out playing him at the 1 and several were ahead of him at the 2 including Mykailuik and all of them were the same age or younger. When you're 6' you better have elite quickness or you're just going to be passed up by players with more length. He's probably a player that would have been used in some spot situations and he didn't want that.
Mason and Graham both played very well and Cliff Alexander was a monster. That dude is going to crush some people in Big 12 play. He's ahead of where I thought he'd be at this point. 14 points off 6-of-8 shooting, nine rebounds and three blocked shots in just 17 minutes. Very encouraging.
Actually he was ahead of Svi and Greene. He was going to start the exhibition games with Mason and Self say him playing a lot this year. The players were shocked he left and Selden said he has been playing very well. But I think he wants to play the point and be more of a focal point of an offense. Self talked a lot about using two of Mason Frankamp and Graham on the floor at the same time as something that would happen a lot this year.
As for the game. There really isn't much to take away because it's Washburn. I'll be more interested to see their first game against real competion.
I liked many things I saw with this team last night even though it was Washburn. Mason reminds me of a smaller version of Collins. It is no secret Self loves him and what he will be his last two years and think he will be very good this year. Graham and Svi will also be very good sooner than later. Don't think Frankamp's Dad could take another year of him on the bench most of the time. It also solves some chemistry issues as he was somewhat of a loner with teamates. KU will be very very good by tournament time but maybe not good enough early enough to win the B12. I give UT the nod and think OU will surprise and be very good. Will be a tough year for anyone to win it. Winning on the road will decide it.
Alexander is a stud but I'll reserve him crushing people until he plays against somebody with remotely similar talent.
I don't think KU will have a problem being ready for the start of Big 12 season and their first three Big 12 games are @Baylor and home games against Texas Tech and Okie State so they have an extra 1.5 weeks to build up before traveling to ISU for Game 4.
Coaches almost always say nice things when players leave.
Team chemistry wise this is good for KU. It is clear he was only going to be happy being "the guy", and at best he was going to just be small guard #3. If he was a team guy, yeah, the scholarship opening after the year would be even better, but he (or his dad) that.
It will be interesting to see who becomes KU's go to player. Ellis has the talent, but needs to get the ball, and has not demonstrated alpha behavior in the past.
Question for KU is just where Frankamp or any number of other players they bring in the next few years develop into better clutch shooters. With KU it's never going to be a problem inserting "X" new ridiculously talented guard...but not everybody can hit the huge shots. Not saying Frankamp is for sure that guy but you never know.
I know I wouldn't trade Naz Long for lots of guards who are probably more athletically talented than him, he defends and is as good of a clutch 3 point shooter as there is in cbb...and that was after a freshman year where he basically warmed the bench. Kansas is of course in a good position, but you never know with things like this.
Meh. I don't worry about what might have been. If Frankamp hits five late game daggers the first year he plays at whatever school he goes to doesn't mean that it would have been the same at Kansas. Odds are higher that the players that beat him out now are better choices in the next few years as well so I am OK with however it plays out. If Frankamp overcomes those odds and develops into a great player then hats off to him. I will cheer him on wherever he lands.
Maybe KU will get knocked out of the tournament by a Frankamp led team two or three years from now. :spinny::v_SPIN:
Frankamp hasn't proved to be the clutch shooter Naz is and Frankamp struggled on defense and defense comes first at KU despite last years team.
Mason has really improved in the offseason and looked great in the first exhibition game. He'll see the floor a fair amount until Oubre gets up to speed and earns his way into the starting lineup.
