Colonoscopies save lives!

What type of anesthesia are you getting? Conscious, deep, or general? Could possibly ask to switch to a different type depending on your reaction.
Conscious. I thought that would be better than general because I was delirious with that after a miscarriage and d & c. But I have a lot of allergies and the second time had anaphylaxis (if I spelled that right lol)

Can you do one of those at home poop tests?

At my age, I have had two colonoscopies. Never had a polyp even. They suggest that powdered fiber stuff but wonder if they have to? I eat lots of raw fruit and veggies. Kind of hoping at some point there is a better alternative if I continue to not have any issues. I don’t react well to the anesthesia method.

Not a doctor, but spend a lot of time working on this… area. The home tests are better than nothing, but the colonoscopy is the standard for a reason. Absent family history, if you’re 45 or older, get it done. Absolutely worth the (minimal) hassle and inconvenience.

I've had 2 of them. Same physician. He doesn't give much sedation, just enough to relax you. I was fully aware of what was going on and able to watch the monitor during the procedure. Couldn't feel any discomfort Both times had a polyp removed.

I might try that. I had a nine and a half pound baby with no pain medication, I don’t think it would be worse than that.

I did them way back in the 1980's without any sedation. It was uncomfortable and crampy. The scope teams probably won't like it since it's actually harder for them. I've run the whole gamut of sedation where I'd be awake and watching the screens (or way back, getting to look through the eye piece of the scope) to whatever they are using now where I am out but no side effects after (not even a headache). I sort of miss watching. They used an indigo blue dye for one exam, I called it the Smurf Exam.

The jokes are why we don’t get to watch anymore.

You can always get it without any sedation. Not the most comfortable - and not everyone can tolerate it - but I know guys that have done it because they have to work that day.

Had one done this past May. I ran in to a nurse friend there while waiting and she said some don't use the anesthesia. So decided to give it a go and it was a piece of cake. Will do it again.

Sure but the poster I responded to seems to be having a hard time getting scheduled so that would seem to be a time for better than nothing

I don't know if this is true, but I read somewhere that if you do a home poop test, and it's positive, insurance may not not pay for the colonoscopy needed since they already paid for the home test.

Wow, some of you with no propofol. That's impressive. I have had 3 and all with propofol. All negative. As the Doc said earlier, get it done because sometimes it can be asymptomatic. I have had two friends die from colorectal cancer in their early 50's. They were not asymptomatic, but ignored some signs. One was an orthopedic surgeon. Very sad.

I've has 2 colonoscopies. Both normal. Both times the doctor told me afterwards:
1. Your head was not up your a$$.
2. You were not full of $hit.

Yeah, wasn’t trying to be argumentative (I’ll save that for basketball season!), just trying to help with informed decisions. There’s a lot of advertising $ behind the home tests, but they aren’t without risk.

I just did a cologuard test. We don't have a family history of colon issues, my wife is a different story. She has to schedule a colonoscopy due to family history.

Just did my first at 46 this summer. Prep sucked, but I've had worse times after some bad mexican food. Procedure was easy. Doctor wants me on an every 5 years due to some family history.
