Titles are fairly meaningless in this sense- what we really want to know is do his teams consistently play at a high level. 16-0 and no title is just as good as 12-4 with a title imo.

You know JP and Co will grill him on his plan to get Big 12 players to Ames.

The point is that you were wrong. No one is arguing that Murray State did not have a good conference record in winning their West division in 2015. In 2013 and 2014 they had a poorer record in winning the West Division than the Eastern Division champion.

The main point is that there was an attempt to claim they had won 4 consecutive Conference Championships......and they did not do that.

The main point is that there was an attempt to claim they had won 4 consecutive Conference Championships......and they did not do that.

We are arguing about spilled milk here, but they are still deemed as conference champs, even though it's just for the division.

Either way, it doesn't make much of a difference. 16-0 is 16-0.

The validity of expecting a P5-to-P5 to happen in June does not changed based on our excitement for the alternative. Where do you think Oregon got Altman (just one example)? I am quite excited to get a coach in here that is not constipated with NBA aspirations. Maybe they can still add a player this late, and bring some better defense and rebounding.

I don't think the "story" will be better, but the basketball can be. And almost all programs do it by hiring a mid-major that has learned how to find and utilize overlooked talent. Perfect.

By your post, the only way we can judge him is based on his recruiting. Let me extend on that a little. Just because someone is decent at recruiting doesn't make them a good head coach. How does that make him qualified to be the HC?

Imo we know enough about the causes of success and failure of each regime to not apply blind praise or guilt.

I give him credit for Hoiberg years, and not much blame for McD. His role was greater under Hoiberg, and JP getting him to not follow McD to Creighton was huge in getting Hoiberg off to a good start. On the other hand, I think McD's failures were mostly his own, and even with that, were largely a product of circumstance. McD was not going to be as successful as Hoiberg, but if simulated 10 times, it wouldn't have been any worse, and easily could have been much better.

I don't know if he ready enough as a HC to hand over next year's team without first trying to someone better, but I am not bothered by the lack of success on his resume.

One thing that this whole coaching search has shown me is that someone who until last week wasn't even thinking that they could be a coach of a top 25 team is about to become a big time coach. It's like they are going to win the lottery.

Anybody who can coach to a win percentage of almost .800 at any level is very good. I don't care who you are. Anybody expecting undefeated seasons is nothing more than a complete idiot, especially if you're the coach at some low D1 school. You aren't going to be attracting the best talent. These are very good numbers.

There is a good list of good coaches in history who were at lesser schools before who didn't even put up Prohm's numbers.

Let's look at these shall we?

Some of the greatest coaches in history who all share handfuls of Final Fours and Championships, yet none of them went undefeated. Anybody who actually expects someone to have an undefeated season is a complete idiot. The greatest coaches in history, even when they were coaching lesser schools, NEVER went undefeated.
