I guess we need to send CW on a vacation so we can get some big news. I'm sure he needs it after these last couple of weeks.

The best candidate for this job right now is TJ.
-He will have the Mayor on speed dial.

-He is very familiar with the Ames and surrounding communities.

-He is a proven solid recruiter.

-He will keep and run the Mayor's fast-paced NBA style of play.

-He knows the players and this will minimize transfers/decommits.

-He has proven years of experience as an assistant coach.

-He is married to a former ISU women's basketball player.

-He can immediately rally the fan base.

I believe hiring any of the other candidates listed will set the program back much further.

-He will have the Mayor on speed dial. And?

-He is very familiar with the Ames and surrounding communities. So?

-He is a proven solid recruiter. Good Assistant... yes

-He is familiar with the Mayor's fast-paced NBA style of play. He left and missed our 2 big 12 tourny teams. Has more experience under McD then anyone else. Twice the years under McD+Romar than Fred.

-He knows the players and this will minimize transfers/decommits. Who is going to transfer/decommit?

-He is married to a former ISU women's basketball player. So?

-He can immediately rally the fan base. How so?

I believe hiring any of the other candidates listed will set the program back much further.

-He is very familiar with the Ames and surrounding communities. - Who cares

-He is a proven solid recruiter. - A lot of these guys are solid recruiters

-He is familiar with the Mayor's fast-paced NBA style of play. - Familiar with and running are two different things. He's also familiar with McDoormat style of play

-He knows the players and this will minimize transfers/decommits. - Nobody is transferring regarless.

1. Hoiberg is going to be fairly busy and he had no problem leaving for UW.
2. It's not like Ames is NYC. Get real
3. OK, so are lot of other guys. It's not like KU, UK, etc are trying to poach him for recruiting.
4. Anyone who watches film is
5. Maybe, Maybe not; the new bigger name coach has kept rosters in places and motivated players.
6. Big Deal, the last guy grew up here.
7. Or not; the fans want someone that is a known HC quantity

We could just have the players vote on a coach. Leave the decision in the hands of a bunch of 20-22 year olds.

It seems the best chance we have of keeping the current players and getting them to gel well enough next year to have a monster year is to hire TJ. T

Except it feels like we can get all the benefits of TJ by just keeping him on with the next coach. Why just have one when you can have both?

Seems Jerry Stackhouse is coaching a bunch of Top 100 kids over in Treviso for Adidas Team USA.
Maybe a good recruiter for TJ's staff?

Classic Iowa state fans. We make the tournament a few straight years. Win the big 12 tournament twice. Now all our fans think the top coaches in the game should be running to JP offering to coach for half the price because we're such a big basketball program.

Get real guys. We will have a good year next year but after that... It might be kind of rough for a couple years and as you have seen, it's hard to recruit guys to come to Iowa state, even our great Fred couldn't do it very well.

No.

Classic iowa state fans is ones like yourself that set up this strawman that Iowa State fans are expecting the best of the best to want to come here.

The fact is thats not true at all. But i think there's a wide gap between those and settling for an assistant with no HC experience (or other cheap options). "Classic iowa state fans" resign themselves to 'well, we cant pay like the best, so its perfectly fine if we just accept that our pay is going to be the worst'. 3 million is totally reasonable, is not much more than we were paying Hoiberg (and worth it considering the additional money success in bball is bringing the program), and should draw some talented names. But yes, if we go cheap, then sure nobody is going to be interested. You get what you pay for.

Someone posted a table with the coaching stats of all the potential candidates, and I can't find it now. Can that person re-post it. I thought it was very helpful in comparing the candidates.

Well that's crap.

I think most people realize that Otz offers the greatest likelihood for continuity in the way ISU has done things given his familiarity with the team and style of play. He is also a known commodity when it boils down to recruiting players to Ames, Iowa, which is something no other known candidate can say. People open to Otz understand that he would be something of a risk as a first time head coach, but also know that there are things that can be done to mitigate that, as we saw with Hoiberg starting out with an experienced bench coach.

To say that fans want to go cheap because we are Iowa State is a fabrication and I thing you should point out posts where people have said we should hire TJ just because he is cheaper to get. Talk about straw man arguments.

CycloneInsiders will tweet per source that Jerry Stackhouse is interested in the ISU opening in 3........... 2............ 1..........

Thanks for leaking that info fsanford!
