Let's just say TJ comes here, retains the "key" pieces, and brings in Kaluma (and probably Caleb Grill).

2. Back-to-back All-Conference SR Rasir Bolton - 6'3"
3. 3rd in scoring at Ole Miss, JR Blake Hinson - 6'7"
4. #42 Player in the Nation, 4 star FR Arthur Kaluma - 6'8"
5. 4 star RS FR Xavier Foster - 7'0"
Bench: Johnson, Jackson, Grill, Walker, Nunn, Blackwell, Dubar, Conditt, Harris
I know that's 14 players which is one too many, but you have to assume there will be at least a player or two who are not part of the program next year. I will not be speculating at all on who that may be.

Mike Boyton wasn't in demand at all and he's done just fine. Greg McDermott wasn't in demand when Creighton hired him from Iowa State and he's had sustained success for a decade+. To say that TJ would or wouldn't have success here because of two years at UNLV is silly. He recruited very well here for almost 10 years, he had success at SDSU, to say he'd be garbage at Iowa State is literally impossible to know. Which is why when you and others continue to say it, I call out the BS. But feel free to keep disliking or dumbing my posts.
Lol. It says a lot that you had to fabricate things never said. Why do you feel compelled to use hyperbole or strawman? Is your ability to defend TJ that weak? You aren’t calling out bs, you are the bull ****. I have not said he’d be garbage here. I think if the right questions are asked by Jamie, and he’s hired, he could be okay.
There are always exceptions. Dabo wouldn’t have even gotten a search firm call from most top programs when he got the job. No one is saying there are not examples of candidates with even less substantial resumes working.
But we’re discussing odds here. And pluses and minuses. And claims of false authority on TJ in regards to those that watch that conference, is one step away from blindness due to friendship/proximity. Generally, it’s not good to get a guy as close to the hot seat as he is an up and comer, would you disagree? Generally it is not good to get a coach near where we are this year in KenPom.
As another poster that struggles to defend TJ said, good coaches can have bad teams, and bad coaches can have good teams. He never provided why TJ as a HC is the former rather than the latter. Although I suspect he’s somewhere in the middle, Imo we don’t know. And that’s the type thing of flaw in a candidate’s profile that should push him down the list.

Reality is that the two coachs that would have the name to rebuild into a winning team next year is Hoiberg and Altman. Both have the names as coaches to have the current players they want* listen to staying and with the sit out year rule being eliminated he could fill any holes from the departures. Both have shown success in getting transfers and integrating them pretty quickly (CFH at Nebby too).
I don't think either are true options due to their current contracts but if we want the shortest turn arround that is the way Jamie would need to go.
I'd consider it a homerun if TJ could keep Foster and Hunter. If he did that AND brought this kid with him, that would be amazing.
C'mon Jers. Off the court conduct, especially when it bleeds over into attitude towards practices and other team functions? If you're going to b!tch about player not being held accountable during the games for taking bad shots, etc., it's only consistent to want them to be held accountable for what happens off the court as well, right?
Honestly if TJ is the next Coach trying to bring this kid with him is a no brainer imo. PF is a huge need for ISU, he is the top recruit in your class, plus teammates of a PG you are trying to retain. You bring him 10 times out of 10.
I had the UNLV-Utah State game on last night and watched a fair amount of it. A few observations, admittedly just off this game; for what it's worth:
- Both teams looked much-better coached than ISU (duh)
- Utah St looked very well coached - seems like the ball screen is the rage for everyone nowadays, and they use it too, but in various spots (on wings too) and with continuous movement from other players and post-ups built in; shockingly to ISU fans, they ran some nice in-bounds plays for easy, short jumpers and a nice alley-oop play to the big guy; they definitely hit the boards and play D; liked what I saw
- UNLV looks to have more of a Fred-lite offense, with some movement - much, much better than Prohm's - but lots of heroball mixed in (maybe that's an issue with one or two of their players v. the system, but it happens quite a bit) that led to some ISU-type step-back 3s; they gave effort on D but didn't stand out there like Utah St;
- Wouldn't hire or not hire either coach based on this game, but the way this one game played out would look better for Smith, of course - think UNLV beat them once during the year, but didn't see it so can't comment on how that played out
- An odd thing was that Caleb G. still seems to have an aversion to looking at the hoop in the natural flow of the halfcourt offense - i.e., when he gets the ball, it just seems like it's as a conduit to getting the ball to the next person; not blaming that on TJ (or Prohm) - may just be where he fits in their O; just wondering if he's simply a spot-up shooter; maybe that'll change w/ experience and developing a handle.

I’m all for legalization, but weird timing, since TJ just recruited someone that got high, got behind the wheel going 88 mph in a 35, and tragically killed someone. And apparently the charges just got dropped.
I saw Caleb pass up a couple of shots that would have been in rhythm and wondered why he didn't take the shot. Timing was right, it might have made a difference at that point in the game.
I was meh on him last night. Defensively he got lazy on a play and got absolutely posterized on an oop.
The kid committed to TJ last August and then got into that accident in late December. Don’t act like TJ offered him after the incident.
Yeah, I was reading about it and it's tragic. The player is still in high school though and not even part of their program yet. I dont see what that has to do with TJ.
Just thought it was weird timing is all. The player was dismissed from going to UNLV, so no complaints from me.
Yep, that's my whole point. This whole "TJ = Prohm 2.0" is one of the dumber things I've seen on this board. And that's saying something.
There are plenty of reasons to not like TJ as the choice. But his resume is vastly different and more diverse than Steve Prohm's was.
Imagine Grill making his return to the Cyclones to do this in a packed Hilton.
